Blue Oyster Cult plays Manchester Academy

With Temperance Movement in Support

Firstly, I must confess… one of my favourite bands was the support act of tonight – The Temperance Movement. After the intro, appearing on stage as energetic as ever came Phil Campbell and his band kicking off their set with ‘Only Friend’ Lead vocals from Phil are strong as ever, with a unique amazing voice and dancing around the stage like a young Mick Jagger. He certainly feels the music and is lost in it most of the time. Next up with ‘Caught in the Middle’ has the crowd going and can see a lot of them are here for the support as well as the main act. ‘Ain’t no telling’ is complete with maracas and tambourine again receiving huge cheers throughout from the crowd, who are dancing away…and I have to admit, so was I in the pit! ‘Deeper cut’ acoustic style was just fabulous and they finished with ‘Built-in forgetter’ proving they are a fabulous energetic rock blues band – What a great set!

Blue Oyster Cult come on stage to a huge cheer from the crowd, and launch straight into ‘Transmaniacon MC’ from their 1972 album, with cool calm moves from lead singer Eric Bloom. With his dark shades and black outfit, he sure gets the crowd going. Keeping the crowds energy going the band smash out favourites such as ‘Before the Kiss, A Redcap’ and ‘Career of Evil. This iconic band tells the crowd they will keep playing until the venue throws them out!

As the set rolls on, the band give the crowd a choice of song ‘Harvest Moon’ or ‘Shooting Shark’ to which they choose ‘Harvest Moon’ Following this Buck sings ‘E.T.I. True Confessions’ and the crowd are all dancing by this point, but when the band play one of their iconic songs ‘Godzilla’ the crowd erupts. Then came the intro that so many people recognise launching into ‘Don’t fear the Reaper’ just before the encore. The band return to the stage finished with a run of hits rounding off on a real high with ‘Cities on flame with Rock n Roll’ This was the last night of their tour of the UK, definitely the Manchester crowd will not forget tonight in a hurry!
