Brit Floyd @ St David's Hall, Cardiff – Dec 2014

Brit Floyd - St Davids - Dec 2014 - _0008lOn a cold Monday night in Cardiff nearly a 1000 people descended on St David Hall to be thoroughly entertained by Brit Floyd as they bring to the stage a mix of Pink Floyd numbers from throughout the decades on this years Discovery Tour 2014, as they deliver their personal tribute to Pink Floyd.

The music may span the years but the continuity is maintained by a year counter that takes you back to the year the album was being listened to across the land whether the modern album Division Bell released in 1994 or early albums including The Piper at The Gates of Dawn released in 1967. Overall the musical direction wBrit Floyd - St Davids - Dec 2014 - _0100las spot-on with the set opening with Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Part One setting the scene for what was to come, and then ending the set with Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Part Two, a real iconic opening and closing of the set.

Brit Floyd has upgraded the light show that integrates with the back drop of pictures projected on the screen whilst in perfect syncopation with the music and the lasers certainly added another dynamic and being particularly spectacular on the rhythmical bass-driven instrumental One Of These Days and the encore Run Like Hell. Yet again it is the quality of the musicians that make sure Brit Floyd are a – if not the – top-notch tribute to Pink Floyd, as recognised by the fans enjoying live music on a Monday who were over the moon rather than on the dark side as they recognised tune after tune, no wonder there was a standing ovation. As I overheard, tonight was worth every penny and will be back when they tour in 2015.

There is no doubt that these are musicians that are totally immersed in the music they love and they faithfully re-create the sounds, feel and atmosphere of Floyd; bringing the music live in a concert hall for fans and those who were too young to have seen the band live.
Brit Floyd may be a tribute act, but they certainly know how to please and deligBrit Floyd - St Davids - Dec 2014 - _0120lht as they truly deliver the essence of Pink Floyd even though at times some off-piste musical development weaving into the music a layer of their own musical style added to the mix would I am sure challenge many but would add a frisson of artistic interpretation to the set. If you want to see a re-enactment of a selection of tracks for the discography of Floyd there can be no argument they deliver every time.
