Abertillery Blues Rock Festival – Saturday 13th July 2013


This gem of a festival is returning for its ninth year… once again in the majestic setting of Abertillery Park, deep in the valleys of South Wales under the shadow of the Arael Mountain. The now familiar tradition of a big top circus tent and comparing supplied by Bob and Norm from GTFM; famous or is that infamous for their Monday night blues show who last night previewed the line-up for what is going to be a fantastic weekend of music from Friday 12th to Saturday 13th July with TEN confirmed acts and a special mystery band to be announced in May…

Another great Abertillery Blues Rock Festival line-up and a mystery guest which is all very intriguing and adds to a sense of excitement and anticipation so all very intriguing – the waiting game may be for the final act to be announced BUT that sold not stop you getting your ticket NOW as the line-up is already very exciting with a mix of local, national and international bands already lining up to entertain you. In addition to the bands the beer tent will keep you refreshed and once again Rhymney Brewery will be supplying Festival Ale; in addition to the beer tent will be food and hot beverages available throughout the weekend and camping once again as been laid on very near to the festival grounds. All this for a weekend ticket costing £40 (Friday and Saturday tickets are also available separately) and camping at £10 for the weekend including motor-homes.

Saturday 13th July – the musical journey continues:-

Opening the afternoon is a pair of local bands

The Breeze
Sam Andrews Band This is a young band all members are under 20 and are delighting audiences wherever they play and will certainly raise the tempo early on Saturday afternoon.

Marcus Bonfanti Band Marcus is a popular performer travelling the length and breadth of the country performing with his band and solo, this young Londoner and his accompanying musician plays contemporary blues; performing his own songs with passion and energy, this is what live music is all about Marcus every-time provides winning combination of emotion and superlative guitar licks.

Nightporters Tonight sees The Nightporters opening their 2013 British and European Tour; the self-proclaimed King of Rockin’ and Rhythm and Blues. This will raise the temperature under the famous Abertillery big top what ever the weather outside.

Grainne Duffy this is a winning combination of talented musicians with Grainne fronting the band with her beautiful soulful voice, her fan-base is growing across Britain far beyond her homeland of Northern Ireland. The band will be playing some new songs at the forthcoming gigs and will be another highlight of the weekend at Abertillery.

Henry’s Funeral Shoe This duo has been exciting audiences throughout Wales and when opening for Kiss in U.S.A. and wherever they bring their exciting modern twist on the blues. The brothers Aled is the singer/songwriter who fronts the band playing some superlative slide guitar and on drums Brennig they produce a sound that makes you look for the other musicians, as they deliver the whole sound which is at times reminiscent of Captain Beefheart.

Lucky and Tamara Peterson this class and talented act will bring high-class blues from a strong line of musicians and Lucky who was discovered by Willie Dixon bringing a wealth of experience and passion to the stage. The atmosphere at the festival will be definitely ready for the final act of the 2013 festival who they will be is a surprise and definitely a matter of conjecture until it is announced during May…..

    • No it is not a secret The Festival starts at 7pm on Friday 12th July opening act Mick Pini and Midday Saturday 13th July starting with a trio of local talent.
