Von Hertzen Brothers announce UK tour & New Album

The “War is Over” Tour will kick off at Nottingham Rescue Rooms on Sunday November 5th and will run until Nov 18th at Wolverhampton’s Slade Rooms and will also include appearances at London’s Garage on Thursday 16th, as well as appearances at Winter rock festivals including Hard Rock Hell & HRH Prog. They will play alongside bands such as Uriah Heap, Magnum, Threshold and many more. Supports for the tour are also due to be announced shortly.

The band are currently locked away in a studio in Helsinki Finland, where they are mixing down the last tracks for their much-anticipated new album.

Singer Mikko Von Hertzen says: “ We (The Brothers) are so excited by the songs on our new album. We took a little breather to give space for seeds to sprout and for musical ideas to grow and flourish. So what we now have is a beautiful garden of all different kinds of songs. We feel there is a new fresh magic and energy in this record that we are all extremely excited about and we cannot wait to unleash these songs across audiences in the UK”.

Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening Out June 2017

Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall - An Acoustic Evening Out June 2017

Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening Out June 2017 – On January 21st and 22nd 2016 world-renowned platinum-selling and Grammy-nominated blues-rock, singer-songwriter and guitarist Joe Bonamassa performed two unique all-acoustic shows at the iconic Carnegie Hall in New York City. Both performances were filmed and made into “Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening”.

“Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening” is an evening of extraordinary music with new arrangements of favourite songs as well as brand new, never-before-heard songs.

The line-up is completed with Reese Wynans (piano), Anton Fig (Drums) Eric Bazilian (mandolin, hurdy-gurdy, saxophone, acoustic guitar, vocals), and three Australian backing vocalists, Mahalia BarnesJuanita Tippins and Gary Pinto.

Bonamassa comments: “Despite being among the most ambitious things I’ve done – I played with a 9 piece acoustic band – It came out great. It was a typical Joe freak show.”

Everyone knows the old saying about how to get to Carnegie Hall, but Bonamassa has truly lived that advice. His entire life and musical career had been practice for this moment, and a young blues-boy finally made good on a childhood dream of playing one of the most hallowed stages in the world.

This stripped-down, all-acoustic show allowed his fans a glimpse into his soul and presented a thrilling and musically dangerous spectacle akin to walking a tightrope without a net.

Joe Bonamassa is the winner of the Sena Performers European Guitar Award 2017 (SEGA). He will receive the award at a special ceremony on 21st May in the Dutch city of Bergen op Zoom. Last year Steve Vai won and accepted the award in person in the same town. An impressive list of former winners of the Sena Performers European Guitar Award led the way for him: Slash from Guns N’ Roses, Brian May from Queen, Walter Trout and Steve Lukather from the band Toto.

Joe says: “This is really a big thing for me, looking at the people who won it before me. Guitar players like Brian May, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather and Walter Trout are such an inspiration. I’m honoured by this.”

New Album – A Girl in Teen City

“Here is my story of A Girl in Teen City. Trying to find out who she is while trying to be something she isn’t. Falling in love, getting drunk, having her heart broken, hanging out with friends in bedrooms, basements and parking lots, sneaking into shows in burnt out warehouses, watching the waves, walking home over bridges and railroad tracks in all that endless rain.” Oh Susanna/Suzie Ungerleider

A Girl in Teen City reunites Suzie Ungerleider with producer Jim Bryson. Jim and Suzie collaborated on her previous release Namedropper, an album featuring the songs of Canada’s top songwriters written specifically for Oh Susanna to interpret.  With six other critically-acclaimed albums of original songs in her carpet bag, Oh Susanna tells stories of troubled souls who rebel against their circumstances to attain a quiet dignity.  They are outsiders, real and imagined, but rarely herself. This time, with the urging by her friend and co-conspirator, Jim Bryson, she embarked on a time machine to visit her teenage self in a sleepy port town that she thought no one had ever heard of.

The Juno-nominated and Genie award-winning Canadian songstress began performing as Oh Susanna in the mid-1990s, crafting a persona that matched the timeless qualities of her music, sounds that drew from the deep well off early 20th Century folk, country and blues, yet rooted in her finely-honed storytelling skills.

Dan Reed Talking about Networks and Live Music

Dan Reed Talking about Networks and Live Music

Dan Reed Talking about Networks and Live Music

BD: Hi Dan hope you are well, thanks for taking time to speak to Bluesdoodles, we spoke last year on the release of Fight Another Day, now as you embark on a European tour we have a chance to revisit and explore the world of Dan Reed Network.

DR: Good thanks, we are in Norway and it is as cold as hell. That is a silly thing to say it is beautiful and snowy.

BD: How has your perspective changed since taking the time out travelling, studying and having a son?

DR: Biggest change was the birth of my son.  He is so very cute, often mistaken for a girl with his long hair, people often still don’t connect when I say his name is Joshua. Having a child is all encompassing. It is so hard to describe the feeling the first time you hold the baby. There is a deepening of awareness, deepening of compassion, a child engulfs you with emotions of love and responsibility. My first responsibility is to raise them safely and then as they grow imparting lessons of gratitude, how to lead a good life, planting the seeds of who the child will grow into. It has made me a better human being. This runs through my lyrics as they reflect the path that you have left behind is so much more defined.

BD: Back touring Europe and hitting the U.K. in March. Before we talk about the 2017 tour with Fight Another Day. What were the highlights last year back on the road with the Network,

DR: Festivals are always fun and at Sweden Rock Festival, we were the first act on the stage on the second or third day after lots of partying. In an arena that holds twenty-thousand there were 300 in the rain. As the first song started the rain stopped and by the end of the set there were over 8,000 watching and it was exciting, energetic from the rain and gloomy skies we had music it was the best show. The coolest was playing back in our home town of Portland seeing so many familiar faces, lots of folks who have seen us play from the beginning from the making of the video for Ritual. It felt so good being back. Yes our knees hurt a bit with a few more aches and pains now after a performance but this is part of the challenge of a live performance and is definitely an excellent workout both mentally & physically.  Funky rock is hard and needs the energy of the song; we achieved this at a live rehearsal at the Hard Rock Café rehearsing in front of an audience the energy of the audience feeds the performance you trade off the energy of each other it is a symbiotic relationship. It is hard being away from family and home when on the road the positive trade-off is you get rid of the tensions by playing the music, talking to the audience and the feeling that we are so lucky to be doing this.

BD: What’s your favourite track from your extensive back catalogue to perform live??

DR: Favourite track, the solo stuff I love playing it live acoustic can be harder with a need to put your energy into the meaning of the lyrics. From the album The Heat Salt of Joy and when the band sings A Capella Long Way To Go, it is magical honest lyrics, written with visions in the head. Writing lyrics need to go into a daydream and explore thoughts and emotions. Kurt Cobain was a tortured soul but wrote honest lyrics the most honest rock songs ever written.

BD: Now you are performing tracks from Fight Another Day live, how do you select tracks from the extensive back catalogue to meld the past with the now.

DR: It can be difficult singing the same songs over and over again. The key to not sounding mechanical, just going through the motions is twofold having a good time and play the music as if it is for the first time. Play your arses out never let it become a slog, enjoy the music build up the audience.

Mixing things up more and more. Including a Bruce Springstein style request. It is fun, surprising challenging the request could be for a ballad, like Stronger Than Steel in a part of a set we would never plan a ballad. We now have no set list we play the songs we want to play trying to vary the groove what feels best changing the tempo and topics covered from politics to sex!

The Set is like climbing a mountain range. With summits and valleys can build and build through the show with a high point in the set climaxing the show. Or can sing a mellow song reached the top now meditating and chilling.

BD:  Last time we finished with what your dream band would be this time – what are you listening to and what Dan Reed Network track would you liked covered and by whom?

DR: Music that listening to at the moment D-A-D Danish rock originally named Disneyland After Dark but had to be renamed after The Walt Company threatened a lawsuit.  D-A-D & DRN all the letters would just so love to open for them would be so inspirational. The poppy melodies and funky tone of   Foster The People love the music they do not use any sequences and the evergreen band for me is  Jamiroquai

BD: Thank you for your time and looking forward to Cardiff at  The Globe on  5th March and hearing DNR live.

Static in the Wires is the new album from blues-Americana singer-songwriter Martin Harley and bass player extraordinaire Daniel Kimbro (Jerry Douglas, Larkin Poe).

Martin Harley is a supremely talented acoustic roots and blues guitarist, singer and songwriter with a burgeoning global reputation. Static in the Wires is his seventh album and the second with Daniel. The two first met through mutual friend, Sam Lewis, at Hippie Jack’s music festival in Crawford Tennessee. After a brief backstage rehearsal the two took to the stage for an hour of largely improvised music. A few weeks later they were cutting a record at Zac Brown’s iconic Southern Ground studios. Their live shows bring aspects of blues, Americana and folk to the table; Martin playing a 100 year Weissenborn (Hawaiian acoustic lap guitar), while Daniel beats scratches and bows a double bass to create an unexpected array of textures and sounds.

Static in the Wires was tracked live at Wow & Flutter Studios in East Nashville over four days. Engineered and mixed by analogue guru Joe V. McMahan making use of every corner of the space. The drums sounded great in the kitchen and if you listen carefully you can hear the freight trains rolling past. At one point heavily armed police sealed off the area to conduct a manhunt.

Mixing elements of Santo & Johnny, JJ Cale and Taj Mahal, Static in the Wires follows 2015’s Live at Southern Ground, glowingly described by The Observer as“A spellbinding 50 minutes”.

Guests on Static in the Wires include multiple Grammy Award-winner Jerry Douglas (Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Dolly Parton), Derek Mixon (Chris Stapleton, Sam Lewis), and Micah Hulsher (Alabama Shakes).

Glenn Hughes Back On Tour 2017

Vocalist/bass guitarist/songwriter Glenn Hughes is a true original. No other rock musician has carved such a distinctive style blending the finest elements of hard rock, soul and funk. Stevie Wonder once called Hughes his favorite white singer.

Glenn Hughes was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Mark III line-up of Deep Purple. He spent key years of his career as the beloved bassist and vocalist of the group, recording on the classic albums: Burn, Stormbringer, and Come Taste The Band. Hughes and other members of Deep Purple were in attendance to receive the honor.

Glenn’s 12th studio album, and his first album in eight years, Resonate was released on 4th November 2016 to great critical acclaim and hit #6 in the Official UK Rock Album Chart.

“My personal connection with my fans while on tour and via the socials networks, daily, is an honour.” – Glenn Hughes

EP OPEN HANDS AND ENEMIES is attracting attention for all the right reasons.  The No Need For Moonlight Dan Owen One to Watch In 2017Independent today said Dan Owen one to watch out for in 2017! Bluesdoodles has been watching the prodigious talent grow since we first spotted him playing at. In fact, the first photograph at the top of a very early Bluesdoodles review is Dan Owen’s Foot and his biscuit tin stomp board still a great photograph.

‘MOONLIGHT’ – NEW SINGLE OUT NOW

Rising star Dan Owen has announced his brand new single ‘Moonlight’, celebrating the release of his latest EP Open Hands and Enemies out today through LAB Records.

‘Moonlight’ is a distinctly intimate insight into Dan’s stunning songwriting and jaw-dropping vocal abilities. It’s one of the most touching moments on the Open Hands and Enemies EP, a haunting love ballad that finds Dan at his most effortlessly smooth.

http://bit.ly/2dg70UkBluesdoodles reviewed the album  –  The only complaint I have and it is a big one, Open Hands and Enemies is immense for an E.P. but Bluesdoodles wants a full-blown twelve track album so that we can get to know all the intricacies that makes Dan Owen such a marvelous musician. The E.P. Open Hands and Enemies from the man with the velvet smooth vocals that packs a punch. Four tracks a teaser of a full album We are waiting Dan get the message we want more! READ what we said HERE

Dan has had a busy 2016 supporting Birdy and before the year closes he has time to make a montage of his journey and fit in a nine-date headline tour of Ireland – which kicks off on Thursday (Dec 8th) at the Ruby Lounge, Dublin as 2016 draws to a close. Headline tours for 2017 already arranged He will be playing his biggest London headline show to date at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on April 26th, alongside a further 15 UK dates in April, which is preceded by a nine-date European tour in March. Moreland & Arbuckle Promised Land Or Bust Tour

Moreland & Arbuckle Promised Land Or Bust Tour 2017

New CD “Promised Land or Bust” Now Out

Moreland & Arbuckle UK dates this coming January 2017.  These Kansas roots rockers will only be in the UK for six gigs including a slot at the Great British Rock and Blues Festival in Skegness on the 21st January.
Guitarist Aaron Moreland and harpist/vocalist Dustin Arbuckle have spent over a decade exploring the edges of American roots music. In the process, Moreland & Arbuckle have forged a relentless and haunting sound that merges Delta blues, folk, rock, traditional country, soul and numerous other echoes and murmurs from an infinitely layered musical narrative that spans more than a century.
