‘DREAMS & SONGS’

“[Gov’t Mule‘s] songs stomp and wail with unmistakable energy and heft” – NPR

“Warren Haynes is a meaty and masterful slide player, as well as a soulful singer and songwriter” – Rolling Stone

“A band heavy enough to be James Hetfield’s favourite; grungy, gritty and bluesy enough to earn the praises of ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons; and swirly enough to speak loud and clear to the Phishheads who flock to their shows to twirl the night away”
– Guitar World

Gov’t Mule On Tour plus New Album, Revolution Come… Revolution Go, and the visit to Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales we all get a chance to hear the new music live!.  Following the announcement of their eagerly anticipated 10th studio album, American rock band Gov’t Mule have confirmed their return to the UK in October this year. The band will be heading to Ireland to play a show in Dublin before coming to the UK for four dates in Edinburgh, Manchester, Cardiff and London.

Oct 22nd –  Academy, Dublin, IE | Tickets
Oct 24th – Queens Hall, Edinburgh, UK | Tickets
Oct 26th – Ritz, Manchester, UK | Tickets
Oct 27th – Tramshed, Cardiff, UK | Tickets
Oct 28th – London Bluesfest, London, UK

The band first return to the road at Summerstage in New York’s Central Park and have dates booked through the summer in North America and Europe, with hopes of also heading to Japan, Australia and other territories to promote the upcoming album Revolution Come… Revolution Go. After celebrating 20 years and then taking a few years to work on other projects, the album is “the new chapter opening up for the band”, according to founder Warren Haynes. It’s due for release June 9th via Spinefarm Records. You can pre-order the album here.

The 12-song set, Gov’t Mule‘s 10th studio outing, was recorded primarily with long-time collaborator Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar) in Austin, Texas, but the musicians also worked on a pair of tracks with Don Was, with whom Haynes recently toured as part of the recent The Last Waltz 40th anniversary tour.

The record features the song ‘Dreams & Songs’, which Haynes deems autobiographical, reflecting on a career that started professionally with David Allan Coe’s band in 1980 and has gone through the Dickey Betts Band, the Allman Brothers Band, the Dead, Phil Lesh & Friends and more.

“It’s about looking back at your life and family and changes,” Haynes explains, “and the general message is you never go back home — not in the literal sense of the word, but things have a way of growing in their own directions, and you wake up one day and look at everything you’ve been through and think, ‘Wow, how did I get here?’ It’s a journey and you look back on it. I’m very grateful for the opportunities that I’ve had, but it’s been a wild ride and in some ways has gone so much quicker than I would ever expect. Thankfully, I’m still going strong and my career’s as good as it’s ever been. I’m thankful for that.”

Booked your tickets now listen to 24 Angels from the forthcoming album Stolen Hearts

Fourth track of the Album, 24 Angels  a song is about morality and forgiveness. While Erja wrote the lyrics she  was thinking of death row, when the final judgement comes. How does the person feel while walking that last walk? Relief? Fear?  Written in a more minor key and co-written with songwriter and guitarist Alan Darby. Last year I went to India to play some shows. During the slide solo I played an Indian scale with semitones, which gives the song a more of a mysterious vibe.

Recorded in Nashville, at Sound Emporium and other noted studios, with acclaimed producer Fred Mollin (Billy Joel, Jimmy Webb, Carly Simon, Joe Cocker, Johnny Mathis and many more) the album features Michael McDonald on the first single ‘When We Were Young’.

Award-winning Soul and Blues singer-songwriter Jo Harman announces a 3rd February 2017 worldwide release date for her much-anticipated second studio album, People We Become, the follow-up to her critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2013 debut ‘Dirt On My Tongue‘.

Video with Jo talking candidly about making the album People We Become and introduction to

Jo Harman’s vocals capture the essence of the lyrics, emotional intent, warm and full of soul.  Jo Harman is teh first to admit that she is not trying to fit into a genre straight-jacket.  For Jo Harman it is about the song, mood and music that flows, with a dash of soul, blues and a huge dollop of classics style.

Released worldwide on February 3, 2017, People We Become marks the biggest leap of Harman’s career. To make it, she headed overseas to Nashville, Tennessee, where she found a trusted collaborator in producer Fred Mollin. While a winter storm raged outside, Harman and Mollin holed up inside the city’s famed Sound Emporium Studio for three weeks, focusing on a warm sound — full of upright piano, Rhodes, unaffected bursts of electric guitar, and the soulful sweep of Harman’s voice — that contrasted with the town’s snowy weather. In March Jo will return to Nashville, a fitting start to her first American tour.

Poignant and personal, tracks like “Silhouettes of You”, “Changing of the Guard”, and “Person of Interest” find Harman moving through the stages of a breakup. Heartbroken one moment, forever reminded of a relationship that’s fizzled out, and empowered the next, eager to explore what lies ahead with emboldened purpose. Other tracks cast a broader net, with the stomping, percussive Reformation taking influence from Harman’s work with Amnesty International. Backing her up are some of Nashville’s best musicians, whose contributions bounce between smoky, soulful ballads and brassy, Motown-tinged anthems.

THE ANSWER – NEW ALBUM: SOLAS
OUT OCTOBER 28TH THROUGH NAPALM RECORDS

Listen to the Single and Title track

Both ‘Solas’ and ‘Beautiful World’ will be available as instant grat downloads with pre-orders of the album via digital stores,
which will go live on September 16th.

A decade into the band’s career, Solas marks a significant turning point for The Answer as they turned inwards to their culture, musical heritage and deep-rooted sense of ‘Irishness’. The album is a hugely varied body of work encompassing elements of their Celtic background as well as their renowned trademark guitar attack.

Opening with the dark hypnotic drum beat of the title track ‘Solas’, a brooding rock anthem that builds to a climactic release with an explosive and almost operatic choral finale, the album showcases the band’s love of Irish harmony; the combination of mandolins and Celtic choral arrangements suspend time on the harmonious ‘Thief Of Light’ while ‘In This Land’ summons an epic resolve and demonstrates an atmospheric turning point in the band’s sound.

Not turning their back on their blues-filled rock anthems, ‘Demon Driven Man’ is perfect rock’n’roll fare, but it is the epic ‘Battle Cry (Seo An La Mo Laoch Mo Ghra)’, a six-minute call to arms featuring elements of Celtic music, a Gaelic vocal chant, windswept rock and even thunderous Samba rhythms, which best epitomises the old and new of The Answer.

Having gone back to their roots and rediscovered their inner selves Solas is an honest and brave album that panders to no label, to no media framework and to no rules. It is a record that bears the scars and soul of four talented men from Northern Ireland; sometimes troubled but seeking creative liberation.

Now firmly embarked upon a new journey with a roaring fire inside, The Answer will be bringing their fierce Irish rock’n’roll to the UK this November.

New Single says Don’t You Try – listen but definitely go and see Jared James Nicholes live – it is awesome. Read what Bluesdoodles said about his opening set at Robin 2 last year – HERE

“Don’t You Try” is the new single by Jared James Nichols Released digitally June 3rd on Listenable Records.
Written by Jared and producer/ engineer Anthony Perry Jr. Recorded at Swing House & Unison Music Group Studio’s in Los Angeles. Blueprint Motion Pictures Ltd.

The official music video is a celebratory homage to bikers. But how did Jared come up with the idea?

Says Jared – “It sounds crazy, but the idea came up when I was drifting to sleep! I remember the dream so vividly, I was cruising in my old Ford when all of the sudden I was taken over by a biker gang. We worked with L.A. Director Ben Strang and decided to make it a ‘homage” or “parody” if you will. It turned out funny as hell and undoubtedly a throwback to the classic exploitation Biker films of the late 60’s early 70’s. We plan on opening our European shows with the song.”

Jared is looking forward to showing UK and European audiences what his new live show is made of. He’s also can’t wait to get on the road supporting Zakk Wyle.

“When I was growing up and learning how to play guitar, I had posters of Zakk taped on bedroom wall,” reminisces Jared. “Zakk, without a doubt, was, and still is, one of my biggest guitar heroes. The fact that I will be supporting him on a European tour is a dream come true.” Adds Jared, I also have some very special Southern Rock cover songs in store. We’re going to mix it up, and every night will be special and different. I’ll give you a hint… A little ol’ band from Texas, and a badass group from Jacksonville, Florida. Can you take a guess? It’s time to raise some hell. See you out on the road soon!”

Also super stoked to be supporting fellow Canadians while playing some of the nicest arenas in the world.”

The tour follows the release of their new album Sittin’ Heavy which has received rave reviews; being hailed as “fresh and exciting” by Metal Hammer, how they “set the bar to unprecedented heights” by Rock Sound, proclaiming the new record is “relentless and unstoppable” according to Guitarist and a “hard rocking masterpiece” by Big Cheese. As well as guitar legend Slash backing their corner, Dee Snider can’t get enough of them saying “Holy Fuck, this band rocks” whilst Dave Navarro has come out with ‘Killer band, great guitar playing.”

Twelve Spells of The Stone Foxes

The Stone Foxes Twelve Spells

Twelve Spells of Stone Foxes

New album and U.K. Tour Dates

Twelve Spells of The Stone Foxes, fourth studio album from a San Francisco based quintet who have kicked up a storm and for fans are over in UK early 2016 who will have their first opportunity to hear them live! The album has its UK physical release on March 18th and is available digitally now! Stone Foxes will be pleasing fans who have already found the music and those who hear them live on tour with their sun drenched rock spiced up with blues deep in the heart of the Stone Foxes sound.

The baker’s dozen of tracks that have the frisson of experimentation that runs over the rock backdrop; each song has a distinctive element that adds up to the Stone Foxes musical lexicon of sound clouds. This is Rock that rolls with the beats of rock, swaggering with the blues entwined in West Coast slacker riffs. The tracks are in the now as they address issues that are imported to the here and now and at the same time resonate with music from deep in the annals of time, as they tackle income, inequality and the Occupy Movement and relationships.

Opening with a track that curls and winds itself around a distorted stomp beat with the vocals loud and up front, the track is full of musical energy holding the interest and intriguing your musical ear. Rock N Roll kicks in on This Town and Locomotion, the beat kicks with a raw energy that captivates the keys and percussion add layers of tonal sounds to This Town. Much of the album is loud even raucous, then tracks Cold Like A killer and Jericho calm down the tempo the vocals are quieter the words are delivered as a tonal poem similar to a sermon, you are drawn in and you become part of the music.

This is an album that pleases and at times delights it is as a whole hit and miss some tracks lacking the grittiness that they hint at I would have liked to have seen the rock Blues dirtier, swampier in a hill country style and the rock grungier making the most of the vocal prowess with The Stone Foxes combined with the driving guitar riffs and a rhythm section that wants to shape the music.

This is an album of a band in transformation with new members and is a sound that may define the early 21st Century that cross-genre blending of independently minded musicians punked-up rock blues using rock n’ roll as the springboard to the beat. The stand out elements are the lyrics, Twelve Spells of The Stone Foxes has something to say and they say it loud and clear.

Bluesdoodles gives this CD SEVEN pawprint half inchdoodle paws out of TEN ….
