Gov’t Mule On Tour plus New Album, Revolution Come… Revolution Go, and the visit to Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales we all get a chance to hear the new music live!.  Following the announcement of their eagerly anticipated 10th studio album, American rock band Gov’t Mule have confirmed their return to the UK in October this year.The band will be heading to Ireland to play a show in Dublin before coming to the UK for four dates in Edinburgh, Manchester, Cardiff and London.

The band first return to the road at Summerstage in New York’s Central Park and have dates booked through the summer in North America and Europe, with hopes of also heading to Japan, Australia and other territories to promote the upcoming album Revolution Come… Revolution Go. After celebrating 20 years and then taking a few years to work on other projects, the album is “the new chapter opening up for the band”, according to founder Warren Haynes. It’s due for release June 9th via Spinefarm Records. You can pre-order the album here.

The 12-song set, Gov’t Mule‘s 10th studio outing, was recorded primarily with long-time collaborator Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar) in Austin, Texas, but the musicians also worked on a pair of tracks with Don Was, with whom Haynes recently toured as part of the recent The Last Waltz 40th anniversary tour.

The record features the song ‘Dreams & Songs’, which Haynes deems autobiographical, reflecting on a career that started professionally with David Allan Coe’s band in 1980 and has gone through the Dickey Betts Band, the Allman Brothers Band, the Dead, Phil Lesh & Friends and more.

“It’s about looking back at your life and family and changes,” Haynes explains, “and the general message is you never go back home — not in the literal sense of the word, but things have a way of growing in their own directions, and you wake up one day and look at everything you’ve been through and think, ‘Wow, how did I get here?’ It’s a journey and you look back on it. I’m very grateful for the opportunities that I’ve had, but it’s been a wild ride and in some ways has gone so much quicker than I would ever expect. Thankfully, I’m still going strong and my career’s as good as it’s ever been. I’m thankful for that.”

Black Star Riders, attracted the rock fans of Cardiff and beyond tonight at The Tramshed. Tonight with a trio of bands would we have three jackpots in a row?

Black Star Riders Entertains The Tramshed CardiffUp first, in the slot machine roulette at The Tramshed were The Amorettes.  With a dramatic entrance Gill, Heather and Hannah set off at a pace with Steal The Thunder. The opening set heated the room, with pure rocking joy as the Amorettes played a storming opening set. The Scottish trio of hard rocking, rock n’ roll loving women are building a reputation of playing a set of music that brings joy. Tonight they blasted across the Tramshed a set list that won them many more fans, mixing it up with raw delights of White  Russian Roulette and the single from White Hot Heat, Let The Neighbours Call The Cops. No one would be calling the police to stop this band from playing tonight or any night. Thirty minutes of raw, classic rocking delights with vocals that rasp, grasping with lyrics and spitting them out, an infectious opener that they should never be ignored. Those who missed the set missed a moment of live music, I recommend get to see the support they are the future you could be queuing for next year and across the decade.  A full house of three shot glasses brimming with sparkling rock.

Black Star Riders Entertains The Tramshed CardiffSecond, go at the Tramshed’s music slot machine delivered Gun to the stage. Let It Shine opened the set and the rock gods did shine on everyone in the room as Gun delivered. The Glasgow based quartet were shooting from the hip determined to entertain from the first note to the last. The line-up has changed but the music remains foot stomping Rock n’ Roll that thrills. With Dante Gizzi now out front loving every moment as the lead vocalist.  In the mix the set included songs from across the decades and a new song, She Knows, from forthcoming album out in summer 2017. GUN were pistol sharp shooters tonight blasting their full force through every barrel. We all stamped our feet and joined in with Hold Your Head Up, no one was staring at the floor tonight we were as one focused on the band. Wow, the energy the force of music through the speakers.  What a night to join with bassist Andy Carr and help celebrate his thirtieth birthday with a loud Cardiff cheer. GUN’s guitars gunned the beat, the hooks capturing the vocals their melodic rock captured the audience. The blinding set a prelude to Black Star Riders closed with a rip-roaring rendition of Beastie Boys (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!) Tonight we partied with another jackpot of Glaswegian tartan rock.

A short breather and the packed, crowded, hot Tramshed were ready for the third dose of rock with headliners Black Star Riders.  Opening with Heavy Fire, the title track of the album that is on continuous play on many a rock house turntable. With a lengthy back catalogue, Black Star Riders born out of Thin Lizzy only had one of their tracks The Boys Are Back in Town. They definitely were. The venue was buzzing with red hot rock.  The set had tracks from the latest album, but as important are the favourites that have become part of the legend that BSR are rapidly becoming, with Bloodshot and The Killer Instinct. Tramshed was throbbing with the stamping of feet and the loud reverberation from the Marshall stacks. Dancing With the Wrong Girl had Cardiff singing the chorus before the Celtic branding of their rock appeared with Soldierstown. Ricky Warwick was full of bounding focused energy, happy to be back in Wales in front of an audience that wanted to join in the fun the boys were having on stage. The new tracks fitted into the set perfectly as if they had been played for years and not recent additions to the choice of music to play live. Cold War Love,  Who Rides The Tiger, and Testify or Say Goodbye kept the crowd engaged stamping and demanding more. With Hey Judas from All Hell Breaks Loose, a memory captured of opening for Judas Priest being a highlight. With a sincere plea for music lovers to buy physical copies of music that you can hold and connect with as we were Bound For Glory of live music with Black Star Riders. Closing with Finest Hour, for many this was Tramshed’s finest night of rock to date.  Tonight was loud and full on the fans were in their element. The neutrals from conversations I overheard enjoyed the ride especially the two opening bands. Tonight was definitely a triple jackpot with Black Star Riders delivering with Heavy Fire of rock.

Opening with We Belong tonight the fans were delighted in a packed Tramshed tonight as UFO set off in cracking form following the opening rock from Russia with Red’s Call. The audience wanted lots of UFO classics it’s a Wednesday night and we all want to Rock out with the tunes that revitalize and remind us of our youth. UFO delivered that with a set list that toured through their Back Catalogue. Spanning the years from Phenomenon in the early seventies through to the latest A Conspiracy of Stars released last year.

The line-up of musicians may have changed but the core trio of vocalist Phil Mogg, drummer, Andy Parker with keys and guitar, Paul Raymond ensure that the heavy rock remains a constant, lead guitarist Vinnie Moore and bassist  Rob De Luca are UFO 2016. Phil was full of witty comments that the Cardiff crowd responded to with chants of Moggy Moggy Moggy! This was old school banter and hit the mark with the audience he can do this as he still can sing and pull the crowds deep into the heavy depths of the UFO sound.  As the evening warmed so did Phil’s vocals as they got stronger as the set progressed with the keys adding that extra dimension with cascading chords through the tracks.

Tonight, was about the band everyone was here to enjoy rock live and UFO delivered with song after song the set list was an exploration of the UFO sound.  For many tonight’s performances of  Run Boy Run and Messiah Of Love was the first opportunity to hear tracks from the new album and they fitted in fine, heavier than the sounds of the eighties, reflecting 21st Century rock. The rendition of Venus tonight was superb followed by exciting mounting songs, Only You Can Rock Me, Burn Your House Down and Cherry. Tonight Makin’ Moves was once again heard live in Cardiff having been given its first airing October 1980 at Sophia Gardens and many here tonight will remember that evening. Lights were certainly veering off tonight, the music was shining through and the choruses were sung with vigour and pure pleasure.

Triplet Encore that had the Tramshed cheering with excitement and pure joy, as Doctor, Doctor was followed by two numbers from 1975 album Force It, Shoot Shoot and closing with Mother Mary.

UFO, landed in Cardiff not with aliens but Heavy rock that has the riffs and chorus lines that we recognize and it is was a fiery performance as we came home to live music that spans the decades and so many memories of good times shared with UFO.

Walter Trout stunning Guitar and a Parka Plays It LiveThe Tramshed was filling fast as Jared James Nichols took to the stage. What a rip-roaring dynamic set, as the saying goes what a difference a year makes. We first heard Jared live opening for Glenn Hughes his guitar playing then was superb but at times the timing was a little manic and the sound raw. Tonight we are hearing what a torch bearer for blues-rock this young guitarist from Wisconsin is carrying it high and bright. He has such control his mastery of the guitar is a mix of wild and control. Jared is full of theatrical interest with a flick of his blonde mane he comes to the front of the stage showing finger dexterity that makes sense of the cascade of notes he is playing.  Denis Holm used the cowbell judiciously along with drum that growled, whilst the bass lines from Erik Sandin fitted the groove deepening the chords that allowing Jared to fly. The set was fast, entertaining warming the venue with a mix of numbers of his own including Crazy from Old Glory & Wild Revival and closing with a stupendous Mountain of a cover of Mississippi Queen which is rapidly becoming a signature number.  Jared and his band are ones to watch as they shine the sparkling blues torch high.

A short break with the excitement mounting as everyone shared memories of previous Walter Trout gigs. There was a collective delight that Walter Trout was back playing live music and in Wales tonight. The applause and cheers as Walter stepped on stage was warm, heartfelt we were welcoming a guitarist we love to hear playing, a friend and well-loved member of the blues fraternity. The set was full of blues with lengthy numbers and at the heart of the set were several tracks from Battle Scars. The songs were long, guitar breaks intense what you know he delivers blues that is full of interest strong lyrics and the journey he takes us on with his magic treatment of the Fenders six-strings.

 

Walter Trout stunning Guitar and a Parka Plays It LiveWalter is at home on the stage the band that surrounds the guitar gives the sound depth and tonal interest, with Sammy Avila on Keys and the rhythm section consisting of bassist Johnny Griparic and drummer Micheal Leasure this is a band that loves playing the music that sets them on fire. The title may have been Out Of Control, but Walter was in total control, delighted to be on a stage in Wales, the atmosphere in the Tramshed was full of love there is no doubt the Welsh crowd and those that traveled far and wide were relishing every note he played. We were treated to a masterclass of controlled intricate blues/rock guitar with a wonderful tribute to B B King with Say Good Bye To The Blues. You almost forgot about the great supporting musicians that make up his band he is the centre of everyone’s attention he is the Trout Lord of the stage yet it is their skills that ensure Walter can strut his stuff with ease and confidence.

The audience wanted to hear Walter play tracks from Battle Scars, we wanted to share theWalter Trout stunning Guitar and a Parka Plays It Live painful journey of the Liver Transplant as told through his music and celebrate the power and determination of Walter. We were rewarded with stories of his journey the resulting Battle Scars album. The songs are dark, graphic, dirty blues on an album where the tracks when played live take them to another level. The album is stunning and emotional live it is a supernova of emotional playing, that at its heart is a truth full of pain and love the essence of the blues.

There was a lot of emotion on the stage as he played Almost Gone the opening track of the album. This is blues that address the pain of reaching the lowest ebb. This is explored in Please Take Me Home, a pleading reprise he asked his wife Marie. Her strength gave him the energy to stay and wait for a replacement liver. Thank you Marie, for your strength and allowing us to share moments with Walter once again on stage playing Blues full of the agony, ecstasy and the enduring power of love.  Loneliness and isolation of lying in a hospital bed in the dark hours of the night as the lyrics of Haunted By The Night unfolds.

Walter Trout stunning Guitar and a Parka Plays It LiveTonight was not about tears, it was a celebration and Walter was joined on stage by Andrew Elt, a fantastic guitarist and vocalist and the acoustic worked so well as the shadow to Walter’s electric guitar. Andrews singing on Down Down Down was rocking good and Walter’s re-wording to Freezing My Arse was a reference to the fact he was feeling cold on stage in fact, Andrew fetched him a Parka a first  for Walter playing guitar in a Parka. With warm words about the young opening guitarist, Jared was invited to join Walter on stage for a barnstorming rendition of Working Overtime quite a magical moment.

Thanking the unknown donor that gave him the gift of life. Praising Wales as a country who along with Spain the only two countries in the World for having the right approach having to opt out rather than opting into organ donation.  The cheers were loud and another round of applause what a night of live, emotional charged Blues-rock. Ending with Walter showing respect to  his many fans and came out to chat with everyone, giving time and signing  many T-shirts and albums with a gracious smile. Thank you, Walter hope you are back in Wales playing the blues we want to hear very soon.

Slydigs-4602Tonight, once again The Tramshed was full with lovers of live music and the special uplifting buzz of live music. We were gathered tonight to celebrate the power of music as a common factor of joy. First, a glimpse of Ty Taylor as he acted as MC introducing the opening band Slydigs The band is a Rock n’ Roll quartet that warmed up the stage with a combination of talent, magnetism, and rawness. They connect to the audience, as they play a set full of energy and textures and tones that ensure the atmosphere is heating up as anticipation for the main act grows. Slydigs opening set though leaves many wanting more there were no bored shuffling of feet as people mentally counting down to the main event and stop listening to the music. Slydigs ensure you listen to every note. Fresh from touring with The Who, the confidence and shadows of The Who could be heard in the music. The music was full of tonal contrast with own numbers such as Easy Solutions, Truth Will Be Found, and a mellower acoustic number Catch The Fading Light. They were joined on stage by Nalle Colt, Vintage Trouble’s guitarist, and we were treated to a glorious rendition of Hey Joe. A strong support band filled the Tramshed with hot music and the audience was now definitely ready for Vintage Trouble.

Tramshed buzzing with excitement thanks Vintage TroubleThe stage setting the distinctive Vintage Trouble lights unveiling the crowded venue who were getting impatient we wanted to hear Vintage Trouble’s special blend of soul-blues. The cheers rose as Richard Danielson, took his seat behind the drums, Rick Barrio Dill completing the rhythm section with his bass, then Nalle Colt picked up his guitar. The noise in the Tramshed, rising to an ecstatic crescendo as charismatic frontman Ty Taylor hit the stage with a smile. Vintage Trouble were in town and Cardiff was going to be entertained, the trouble fans were delighted. Let the music begin. Opening with Run Like a River and closing with Pelvis Pusher we were entertained, delighted by the music which had the crowds dancing with sheer joy-de-vie. Ty Taylor is the centre of attention in his white suit, gleaming smile and vocals that alternately soothes the soul and whips you up into a frenzy of excitement.
Who else gets the crowd singing in harmony with him from the off. Vintage Trouble lay down the grooves deep that is why with a quick practice sway to left, now the right then he has the whole audience swaying as a synchronized wave of energy for a whole song no-one missed a beat. This was a body of people in pure harmony with the music. The reason Ty can put on such a show is the talent of the band that surrounds him. The guitar work from Nalle is sublime, the slide work slithers over the melody. He adds gritty tones and depth so that Ty’s vocals bend around the guitar. Then the rhythm section, Rick’s bass is deep with an energy that coerced the groove into a shape that Ty can explore with Richards drumming adding an energy and a gritty beat to the honeyed soulful delivery that shapes Vintage Trouble’s sound.

Tramshed buzzing with excitement thanks, Vintage TroubleIt would not be a Vintage show, if Ty did not leave the stage mingle with the crowd and then rising above them standing on the edge of the sound desk. Then yes, we had crowd surfing as he is taken back to the stage over the heads of the crowds. Vintage Trouble simply personify entertainment, this is music that shows-off every aspect of life. We are there to have fun and fun we had, Vintage Trouble never lets the fans down (unless it is the fact that they didn’t play your favourite tune!). As ever Cardiff was on fine form taking every opportunity to join in the singing and Ty encouraged them so that the chorus lines rose as an anthem to the healing power of music. Tonight everyone was united in a harmonious journey as the beat slowed then speeded up again, love and hurt explored. We were together live music is a powerful force that will not be undermined by difficulties in the real world. Post referendum this was the perfect antidote. Ty Taylor must be the most charismatic performer on the planet, he is infectious. Vintage Trouble, tonight lit up the Tramshed with music, glorious and compelling music finishing the night with an encore that we all wanted to go on and on. Sadly, not to be the lights dimmed and the stage was quiet and empty but the energy was electric still throughout the venue.

Magnum bringing Rock to a Progressive Tramshed Cardiff

The “Divine” Lies Tour rolls into Cardiff tonight as Magnum is in the City. Before the main act tonight at the Tramshed the rapidly filling venue, full of excited delight at the delicious prospect of a Magnum gig, were treated to Vega. This rock quintet, including twins Tom and James Martin on Bass and Keyboards got the night off to a fine start. Dan Chantrey powered up the rock with drumming that pounded across the venue, Marcus Thurston’s guitar work adding layers of chords and up front charismatic Nick Workman pulling the Vega sound together. The band were warming up the Tramshed with rock that flowed with a sound that kept to the structure and shape that worked.  The set list was from current and previous albums.  With their latest album Who We Are released on the 13th it was good to hear the new music live. Opening with a hefty number from the new album Explode, yes Vega are exploding with energy lifting the venue with live music.  Every track pleased and closing with Saving Grace the band was so much more and they know how to entertain.  This is warm up band that knows how to excite and get the venue hot so the audience is ready to hear more rock on a Thursday in Cardiff.

Magnum bringing Rock to a Progressive Tramshed CardiffWith a short break the main event Magnum – Prog rock with a hard rock attitude – has landed in the building. The lights are dim the band arrives on stage and then with a flash of light the white denim suited Bob Catley takes to the stage. The cheers are momentous with a raising of Bob’s arms the cheering reaches a crescendo before a note has been played. With the opening over and all present and correct on stage it was time to get down to Magnum business.

The 2016 tour “Divine Lies” celebrating their 19th studio album and interspersed between much-loved numbers were four tracks. The addition of new material freshens the set whilst keeping the favourites firmly in place.  The concert started with a wow with Soldier Of The Line followed by the classic On a Storyteller’s Night. The night was warming up with the sound of live music, clapping and the audience joyfully joining in on the words they love. The narratives are strong on every number and the harmonizing, and playful interaction between the musicians made the show full of fun and energy and the immense power of music.  The new tracks including the album title Sacred Blood “Divine” Lies slotted into the set it was still classic Magnum. The chorus of Crazy Old Mother will very soon be sung back to Bob Catley. The guitar breaks lacked meanness and the keys were just a little bit too confirming for a Prog Rock concert. Magnum though delighted the fans with hard rock with a progressive edge. Magnum Hard Rock or Progressive rock who cares it is brilliant rock every time. Once again Tramshed was the scene of another memorable gig in Cardiff.

A seated gig at the Tramshed a first for me and made the ambience of the evening different. There was still that excited hum of anticipation tonight for poetry rather than the poetry of song and music. The trio of poets stepped out on a stage shrouded in purple one of the very many places across the world recognising the untimely death of Prince and shades of purple reflected back from the audience’s choice of clothing.

Poetry, Existentialism at Tramshed Sitting and LaughingOpening the gig tonight was Clare Ferguson-Walker the sculptor who sculpts words with precision and wit. Opening with a dedication to Prince and Victoria Wood this was about a celebration of words and the shared collective power of laughing. Her first poem was one which many in the audience could relate to Housewife Blues – Place is a mess stress building up in form odd socks locks hair matted in tumbleweed rolling around with an air of disapproval the lines about mugs. 1950’s housewife and so much more.

 

Poetry, Existentialism at Tramshed Sitting and LaughingWith a short warm up slot Clare achieved this with aplomb, a warm smile and charm conjuring a laugh from words closing with a poem about her father. This was life true, gritty and messy whilst entertaining. She was quickly followed by Mike Garry. What a fantastic poetic orator weaving in the pithy hard edge with honest phrase,s his Mancunian wit and power of observation. As captured in Penny for a Guy. Exploring, thought-provoking imagery of the tough life in Manchester with humour and a smile. Every poem was insightful, to the point descriptive words had a true purpose as in Pay as You Go and What Me Mam Taught Me which Mike wrote for his mam’s funeral. We all had a sight of the power and determination of Patricia Garry.

 

Poetry, Existentialism at Tramshed Sitting and LaughingWith a short break the minutes past until it was time for The Bard of Salford. Dr John Cooper Clarke. He is more than a poet, he comments on social and cultural subjects in his performance to make us laugh at ourselves. This is demonstrated when a crowd pleasing favourite Beesley Street is recited and then we re-visited the place with the make-over complete as we walk down the re-vamped Beesley Boulevard. The words are clever reflecting the change of time and people’s aspirations and how they shape their communities. I am skipping through the act he strode on to stage, notebook in hand and duly read out ‘The Guest List’. With his turn of phrase and the shaping of words he would make the telephone book funny. We heard about how he was an existentialist. He has freedom of existence and choice of how we define meaning of life. The world around us may be irrational but we can try to make rational choices. He then spoke for over an hour it wasn’t politically correct, it was sweary and it made you laugh. While you were laughing you realized many of the comments reflected your own thoughts and attitudes. He laughs at himself- remembers slights from the past when a heckler commented on weight gain after re-hab with Get Back On The Drugs You Fat ****. Some of the poems are long and wind around the subject others are short and sharp as a razor a two liner that still had him referring to the notebook with Necrophilia. We were treated to limericks and punk poetry classics She’s Got a Metal Plate In Her Head. Social commentary of “PC gone mad” and no it is not a computer running amok through PC World. As acerbic and irreverent as ever Dr John Cooper Clarke drew in a sell-out crowd that spanned the ages. The common thread that linked us all was Dr. JCC who will make us laugh and cry and look at life through a different prism.

Thursday Night Tramshed becomes Planet Hawkwind

Tonight at the crowded Tramshed in Cardiff another live show promising to be epic as the venue morphed into tonight’s rendition of Planet Hawkwind, as the backdrop invited us in. Now the Machine has arrived in Cardiff as part of The Machine Stops! Released on Cherry Red Records on 15th April. The live concept show from their current studio album based on the Sci-Fi classic. EM Forsters dystopian vision of the future through words, visual effects and the Hawkwind sound tonight promises to be epic. Activate The Machine repeated the opening as the venue lifted off into Hawkwind’s unique and very special universe. The lineup may have changed but the constant in the mix is guitarist Dave Brock. His guitar still has the grinding rhythm that drives deep into the arterial vein of creativity. His backing vocals add depth and is fixed in the collective Hawkwind memory. It is the rhythms that are the grounding of the space prog-rock that defines the band and sets them apart. Tonight on drums who has since 1988 been on the beat is drummer Richard Chadwick and completing the rhythm section is Haz Wheaton who certainly has all the style and flair of a showman on bass. Up front singing and then intoning the poems interspersed throughout the set is Mr Dibs, deep dark and mysterious.

Thursday Night Tramshed becomes Planet HawkwindThis was an exploration of the album opening and closing the set with tracks The Machine and Lost In Science is that because of the Machine? In between we were treated to a backdrop of machine parts, hexagons and psychedelic mayhem of colours and form. The machine sped off into ‘Utopia’, the kaleidoscopic backdrop whirled drawing you deep into the Hawkwind musical psyche. Thursday Night Tramshed becomes Planet Hawkwind Into the mix the band dipped into the extensive back catalogue with Utopia from Your Masques, Assault and Battery (Space Hawks) and Orgone Accumulator (Masters Of The Universe). These and other favourites delighted the packed and happy venues all with a shared connectivity through the music. Once the Hawkwind machine got going it didn’t take long before it was a musical drug coursing through your music DNA at a speed of light. Whilst delivering the favourites this band of musicians were pushing the boundaries forward.

Another great night at the Tramshed, full house, great atmosphere and live music tonight it was a prog-rock journey through space, time and form courtesy of Hawkwind. They continue to develop the music keeping in touch with the essence of the musical gale that is free as a bird that is Hawkwind. As promised, the show was epic and everyone left delighted.

Another Good Friday Tramshed with Tax The Heat and ReefAnother packed auditorium and the upper balcony full of happy Reef fans, the vibe was hot and the music was going to rock as the darkness descended on the Good Friday Cardiff crowd. Opening for Reef tonight were Tax The Heat, and the quartet wasted no time to impress the audience opening with Learn To Drown and then the title track of their forthcoming debut album Fed To the Lions. This is a band that just want to play the Rock n Roll, Rhythm and Blues they love with the overarching twist of British attitude and rock. This is no retro quartet, they are building a fan base across the UK having opened with Reef on the 2015 Thunder tour. With two guitars upfront and Alex Veale’s vocal prowess getting lots of harmonizing and support from all of the band in their role as backing vocalists they certainly impressed. Alex plays guitar and sings and JP Jacyshyn adds a mean slide guitar to add a layer of sonic tone that creates shades and interest. Added to this mix is a powerful rhythm section drummer Jack Taylor in the centre and bassist Antonio Angotti they create a sharp modern sound that excites. We were all delighted to hear their latest single Animal and the closing two tracks are not a reflection of the reality of the band. They have definitely not Lost Our Way, (on Debut album) this is rock that connects and the Highway Home will be a long and winding one as they have more and more gigs to play. If you missed them in Wales this time you get a second chance as they are back playing Steelhouse Festival in July another mighty fine reason to get tickets for the weekend.

Another Good Friday Tramshed with Tax The Heat and ReefWith the stage set the excitement was palpable as Reef strode onto the stage and greeted with a deafening roar of pure delight from the crowd. With Just Feel The Love kicking the band into action, the love was a two way interaction as they built the energy they were in excellent form. If the only track you really know by Reef is the 1996 top ten hit Place Your Hands, then by Higher Vibration the second number your ears and rock mindset should be pure Reef. With its catchy chorus everyone was soon singing and feeling a part of the show. Reef is an inclusive sound. The set that entertained and set the Tramshed alive with Reef Mania was a mix of old and new, as they explored the tracks from Albums from Replenish through to Live in St Ives, then a couple of new numbers slotted in.  Reef today were a band of five with the addition of keyboards who joined the West Country quartet. Garry Stringer, vocals; Jesse Wood, guitar and a rhythm section bassist and sometime acoustic guitarist Jack Bessant and drummer Dominic Greensmith. Gary Stringer’s vocals are full of power, they demand your attention he is in full control and like the band is having as much fun as the audience. On bass Jack, bare footed and with a mane of hair is loud, full of dynamism that is the perfect foil to the antics of Gary up front. With its bounding drum intro courtesy of Dominic and the twang of the banjo makes New Bird, a new song surely already in a box marked next single. It has a stand out rhythm that set this number out from the crowd of Reef delights.

The chorus of Stone For Your Love, was perfect, everyone in good voice enjoying the musical athletics of Gary as he straddled the stage and the barrier to get close to an ecstatic front stage. Delighted to add their voice to the proceedings and to touch hands it was a case of Place Your hands. The set was blistering every track further animating the backed audience as hands went up into the air it was party time as we all sang along. The Tramshed once again, thanks to the music, was on fire and the atmosphere electric, crammed and good-natured full of laughing and camaraderie of shared musical experience.   Reef’s West Country rock is infectious with a combination of great melodies, chorus lines that demand audiences to join in. The rock my not be heavy, grungy but it is mighty fine and they can rock with the best as the encore closed with a new track Revelation and closing with Yer Old. While you stand listen and dance to bands like Reef your youth remains an eternal flame.  The many Reef fans left the auditorium full of pure enjoyment from hearing Reef up close and an opportunity to belt out the choruses of the many tracks they knew off by heart. Those newer to the Reef chain they knew that this is a band they want to hear again very soon.

Filmed a few weeks ago in the familiar urban-scapes of London during their successful Night Life Religion Tour, The Cadillac Three now reveal the final portrait of ‘Graffiti’ a brand new music video for their latest UK single. The “smouldering mid-tempo rocker polished with arena-stomping gloss” (Entertainment Weekly), lays a template for their forthcoming album later this year.

We have had such a warm welcome from our fans in the UK and with the Night Life Religion Tour, we thought it would be really cool to film the video in London with all of the unique street art everywhere,” said TC3 drummer Neil Mason, who wrote ‘Graffiti’ with Nashville songwriters Corey Crowder and Luke Dick.

Scenes capture The Cadillac Three following a masked street artist through the capital’s back-streets in Brick Lane, South Bank and Shoreditch, as the band’s lyrics and logo are tagged on every available surface before taking refuge in a dimly lit East London dive bar. Director Lyle Lindgren conceptualized the literal and unique video.

During a frequent visit to the UK late last year, The Cadillac Three was invited by Sofar Sounds to play at one of their secret, intimate gigs. The session included a performance of their hit single ‘White Lightning,’ a staple on the BBC Radio 2 playlist all summer long.
