The Globe Became a Live Music Juke Box TonightSunday night, The Globe was buzzing with anticipation with Dan Reed Network back in Cardiff after 27 years. Opening the Sunday delights of live music in the Capital City was VEGA, a six-piece rock band that always please and tonight they set the venue on fire. VEGA were shining brighter than the fifth- brightest star in the night they are named after! They definitely lived up to their description of being a melodic rock/AOR band tonight, with huge choruses and opening with a keeper Stereo Messiah. As they dipped into their back catalogue we wanted to hear the whole album and the opening set passed by far too quickly doesn’t time fly by when you are enjoying yourself.  Front man, Nick Workman’s vocals soared above the melody set down by his band mates. As many said on the night seeing VEGA for the first time, they just wanted them to come back and play again on a larger stage. The energy was infectious the venue was hot with VEGA magic. They may have sung White Flag the title track of the latest album, to everyone’s joy the flag was one of victory not surrender.

The Globe Became a Live Music Juke Box TonightShort break time for friends to catch up and anticipate the songs that Dan Reed would be bringing to Cardiff tonight. We wanted rock that was full of attitude, funk, soul and more would he deliver… YES the Network DID! With the reforming of Dan Reed Network, last year and the release of the superb album Fight Another Day. The set was a Jukebox of live music as after the first few songs Dan Reed asked the audience to suggest the numbers. From the first album to the latest we were taken on a tour of DRN depth and breadth of music they deliver with energy and the pure delight of playing live music for an enraptured dancing clapping and definitely noisy and appreciative Cardiff crowd.

The Globe Became a Live Music Juke Box TonightThe rendition of Resurrect, from the 1988 album was full of the power of resurrecting the emotions lost and found.  No-one was divided in their opinion when Divided flowed from the speaker this was a Jukebox that was not going to disappoint for one second. The band that surrounds Dan Reed are determined to set the pace and have a good time this is music to party with. From The rhythm section, full of funk and attitude that is solid as the rock creating the foundation of the network, Melvin Brannon Jr on bass; and drummer Dan Pred. Adding to the network of sound, that excites are Brion James’ guitar and the keys of Rob Daiker what a powerhouse driven by rock and shaped by soul and funky grooves.

The Globe Became a Live Music Juke Box TonightThe audience was all too happy to shout out their favourites this re-energised the show as they collected the beat and groove. Including Champion from the current album what a fabulous moment hearing the music come alive as they jammed and kicked up a storm. The medley that produced a verse, and a lick of many favourites had the audience singing and dancing with Relax; we were certainly not relaxed we were high on the adrenalin of live music coursing through our veins

Throughout the evening the musicians showcased their instruments the bass boomed, the drums were pounding, a stinging guitar and keys that captured the sound of keys through the ages from fugues to hip hop.

The Globe Became a Live Music Juke Box TonightThe Heat was rising with Mix It Up the vocals danced with the movements as Dan Reed who at times mimed the meaning behind the words. With Tiger in The Dress, he became catlike, feral and a little bit wild awesome!!  What a joyous night celebrating the power of live performances, invigorating and deep with personal and worldly wise wisdom. Political and secular we were an extension of the network as the Globe became a live music Juke Box tonight, with the power energy and music of Dan Reed Network.

The Globe Became a Live Music Juke Box TonightAs the evening drew to a close, the band retired from the stage and Rob Daiker, stepped out from behind the keys and picked up the guitar to sing All For A Kiss, a romantic song from his forthcoming album produced by Dan Reed, Binary Affairs who joined him on stage whilst picking up the mood the Network. Closing the night with Get To You, the Dan Reed Network certainly got to everyone in the room leaving the stage all was not quiet in the jukebox punching in a request for more we heard A Capella, Rainbow Child. With the refrain She Is Everything, I though yes and so has Dan Reed Network. Combining Rock with twists and twirls of modern music a multiplicity of tempos, tone and perfect timing.
