previously unreleased material.

To coincide with the Ten Years After’s eponymous debut release in 1967 Chrysalis Records are proud to present a 50th Anniversary 10 CD Box Set. This limited edition set includes a CD of previously unreleased material.

To celebrate this special occasion, in November 2017 Chrysalis Records will release a brand new 10 CD Box Set, gathering for the first time, albums from both the Chrysalis and Deram periods from 1967 to 1974.

This set, limited to 1,500 copies worldwide, contains LPs which have been remastered from the original 1/4″ production master tapes along with the bonus disc entitled The CapFerrat Sessions”which consists of never heard before recordings from 1972, newly mixed by acclaimed record producer Chris Kimsey.  Fans can pre-order the box set from Pledge

The package comes in a luxury hardback format with slipcase and an accompanying book which includes newly commissioned in-depth 10,000 word sleeve notes written by legendary Melody Maker journalist and early champion of the band, Chris Welch, charting the band’s progress from their early beginnings in Nottingham, through iconic appearances at the Woodstock and the Isle of Wight festivals, right up to their eventual split in 1974. There are extensive interviews with the remaining band members plus members of Alvin Lee’s family, and additional recording notes by Chris Kimsey.

“I’m genuinely excited about the new Ten Years After box set that we’ve been working on with Chrysalis due for release in November to celebrate the band’s 50th Anniversary,” says Ten Years After’s founding drummer, Ric Lee. Continues Ric, “The box includes nine studio albums and a bonus CD that features the previously unreleased live album ‘The Cap Ferrat Sessions’. Originally recorded in 1972 in the South of France using The Rolling Stones Mobile recording truck, the session tracks were gathering dust until now. I remember we recorded the live tracks in a villa in Cap Ferrat, South of France. Each of the instruments were recorded in a different room – drums in the ballroom. Between Chris Kimsey, our recording engineer and I, we managed to get one of the best drum sounds on any Ten Years After recording. Natural ambience from the villa’s acoustics helped tremendously. The session tracks were originally planned for the ‘Rock N Roll Music To The World’ album, but due to vinyl restrictions of the time, the tracks were not included in the final album release. More details are on the sleeve notes written for us by Chris Kimsey, who kindly agreed to mix the tracks for this boxed set release 45 years after they were recorded. This is a must-have collection for any avid Ten Years After fan, and any new fans that want to soak up the band’s recorded history.”

Ten Years After stormed the stages of rock, they created a sensation that stunned audiences and quickly won them a coveted place among the pantheon of great British groups. Alvin Lee – one of the most charismatic and admired guitar players to emerge from the British blues boom of the era and deservedly ranked alongside his contemporaries Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix – headed a powerful team of talented musicians, Leo LyonsChick Churchill and Ric Lee.

During an intense seven-year period, they embarked on marathon tours, conquering America, enjoying success around the world, whilst also unleashing a succession of ground breaking albums. Their 1967 debut “Ten Years After”was swiftly followed by pioneering live album “Undead” (1968) through the critically acclaimed “A Space In Time”(1971),featuring one of their finest songs ‘‘I’d Love To Change The World”, which is very apt in today’s world, ending with 1974’s ‘Positive Vibrations’.

The Cap Ferrat Sessions” came as a result of a discovery by Alvin Lee’s wife, who found a box of recordings deep in the vaults of the studio in their house they shared in Spain. They originate from the Rock N Roll Music To The World album sessions, which were recorded at a seaside villa in Cap Ferrat, South of France and Olympic Studios in London. Chrysalis Records turned to world renowned producer Chris Kimsey (whose credits include the Rolling Stones, Bad Company, and Peter Frampton), who recorded and engineered the original sessions, to mix these tracks for the first time.

For avid collectors and fans of the band, the legendary Cap Ferrat sessions will have a special appeal and will be an essential addition to their collection.  This is a big deal for classic rock lovers and aficionados all over the world.

Katie Bradley talking about C’est la vie and more

BD: Afternoon Katie, great to catch up with you and have a chance to talk about the forthcoming album and projects you are keeping you busy.

KB: Having a good time, keeping busy with projects and tours that keep rolling in.  So lots of variation in my approach to the Blues. I have been involved with Matt Long recording new material and I have a single out with a dance/electronic duo Jettricks – it is available via i-tunes and limited edition vinyl via my website.

BD: Tell us about the crowdfunding project with Indiegogo for your new album C’est la vie and choosing Indiegogo.

KB: I have invested a lot of time and money getting my exciting new project to this stage. Now on post production stage, feel it is going well people are being very generous. Crowd funding nearly reached half way and with eighteen days to raise the rest. The great thing about Indiegogo is that after paying a fee even if the full amount is not achieved I do still receive the money that has been raised by the end of the fundraising period. A good way of investing in an artist and getting something tangible in return

This is what your money is going towards

What We Need & What You Get

I have already invested what I can to the album to this point, so now we need your additional help to complete the process ready for release. In effect you are receiving the album in advance as a pre-order, with great bonuses and unique gifts available to this campaign as ‘perks’. Thank you for contributing and contributing to this venture, making it happen for us – not mentioning ordering a great present or a gift for yourself!

We are aiming to raise £3000 to cover:

  • Final studio session with special guests
  • Mixing
  • Mastering
  • Artwork
  • CD production

C’est La Vie Indiegogo Crowdfunding HERE

BD: So the album title is C’est la vie; has the blues got a French feel?

KB: No it hasn’t I just like the French take on life, very philosophical and I think that is true of the blues as well. Whatever hardships you come across you have to get on with it “such is life” so thought it was the perfect phrase. The title song has a line “C’est la vie comme ci comme ça that is the way we are baby”. Yes, to do with the philosophical edge of the French.

It has been exciting working on ‘C’est la vie’ with one of the UK’s most exciting and inventive guitarists, Chris Corcoran. Chris is an incredible artist who has been featured in Guitarist Magazine, and is internationally noted for his innovation and authenticity as a composer and musician. I have known Chris for over twenty years, only worked together closely for the last  three years playing on the London circuit, the live scene We have been talking about making an album over the three years but between us we have just been too busy. Chris has been playing over one-hundred & Eighty gigs a year. We didn’t want to do a covers album, didn’t see the point. So he came with some grooves with Jamie Lawrence on Bass and I wrote the words. Quite a few of the songs are quite personal feel that it is quite a magical feel on the album personally. On drums is Mike Thorne who has played with all sorts of people. They are all part of the London scene. There are really authentic Chicago 1950’s flavours but really inventive as well reflecting the diverse catalogue of the musicians creating a lovely mix. I had to get Paul Jobson involved on keys, Fender Rhodes, Hammond Organs and Grand Piano, he just sat there and played it plus he is doing some backing vocals with me a continuity from my first album She’s Ready.  Also joining us is percussionist Paul Elliott who is in a duo with Jamie called Jettricks which is really cool and funky.

BD: With that mix is there a funky groove going on as well?

Yes there is, we have variety across the tracks with a gospel number which is heartfelt with a Staples Singers  influence, then there is Southern  Soul,  New Orleans, Memphis, Sun Studios influences and one of them is definite funky, 1970’s diva style. There is a whole mix of influences and everyone has added there take on them even a jazzy one song about having a muse. Chris Corcoran playing stands out it is just lovely, very melodic. The whole album draws on all of our passions for traditional Blues and Roots whilst continuing the traditions through experiences and bringing them to you bound by infectious grooves and melodies

BD: Where was the album recorded?

KB: The album is being recorded at the brilliant Rimshot Studios in Kent, renowned for award winning records and recording artist’s and so we are in the best possible hands with Mike Thorne behind the desk as well as on the drums. The studio is perfection as it offers authentic microphones and expertly sourced recording equipment, ensuring techniques that are reminiscent of the old recording companies such as Stax and Chess.

BD: Is the album self-released?

KB: Yes it is. The plan is to move it forward with an international release on a record label. The idea is to use the crowdfunding to have all the promotional material of a quality to get the album noticed and out there.

It is going to be released on CD, Had lots enquiries regarding vinyl so may bring out a single on vinyl. Vinyl is attracting young people. Whole new generation who are finding the blues through dance like a flash mob almost? as after a lesson in  Brixton & Islington  they dance to live music Would love to integrate this into festivals.

BD: Is there a release Date?

KB: End of January with a launch night in February. Check out the crowdfunding as one of the rewards is tickets for this event and you can be there at the launch of C’est la vie.

BD: With the album out early 2017 what other plans in the pipeline?

KB: Other things happening new website with shop. Some rather nice gigs including support to Popa Chubby at 100 Club in January and tour and festivals planned over Europe and the U.K. Keep in touch with Katie over at her Website HERE.

AWARD-WINNING MUSICIAN LAUNCHES DEBUT ALBUM CAMPAIGN

Elliott Morris Launches Pledge Music Campaign

Award-winning singer/songwriter and guitarist Elliott Morris is launching a crowdfunding campaign to record and release his first album. Following the success of his E.P. It Seemed To Make Sense At The Time read what Bluesdoodles said HERE

“I’ve wanted to do this for a long, long time!” says Morris. “I aimed to get into the studio at the start of the year, but the gigs have just kept coming!”

2016 started with a Celtic Connections spot in Glasgow (where previously Morris was a Danny Kyle award winner) followed by a support slot to American singer Aoife O’Donovan at her UK album launch in London. He then hit the road with Canadian roots rockers the Bros Landreth, supporting them on their debut UK tour. Other notable shows this year have included opening for Cara Dillon, headline dates at The Troubadour in London, and most recently, sharing a bill with Badly Drawn Boy at Barking Folk Festival.

“Crowdfunding means that people I’ve played to along the road so far can directly become involved in the creation of my first album said Morris, who averages 120 live shows a year. “I have played these songs up and down the country in pubs, folk clubs and concert halls, and met many great music fans along the way. It only seems natural to include them in the next step!”

Morris, described by Acoustic Magazine as “the next big thing”, has previously completed two UK tours supporting Paul Carrack where he made a lasting impression with Bluesdoodles we said “His voice is powerful and he engaged with the audience with funny tales and setting the context for his songs which were a mix of folk and country tinged with blue. The numbers were self-penned full of clever lyrics, this is a songwriter who understands the power of the story….”

PledgeMusic is a direct-to-fan music platform, which allows fans to become a central part of the music making experience, gaining access to exclusive content and seeing Pledger-only updates that provide insight into the music as never before.

“Using PledgeMusic lets me offer my audience far more than if I were to release by myself through a label. With the advance support of my listeners, I can offer not just physical CDs, but I can release the album on vinyl, and provide really special extras such as signed artwork prints, handwritten lyric sheets and bonus discs. I can also send exclusive updates from the studio directly to Pledgers.”

Other benefits on offer to Pledgers include exclusive Harris Tweed guitar straps, a thank you in the CD booklet, signed and framed vinyl, an exclusive live EP recording while on a tour of Scotland this summer, and even a house concert where Morris will come and play a show in your living room.

Furthermore, once Morris’s funding hits its target, 10% of any extra Pledge money goes to the men’s mental health charity C.A.L.M.

Elliott Morris   releases his album in early 2017, but anyone can become part of the journey now. Visit Pledgemusic NOW   to find out more about the album, benefits and Pledge HERE.
