Who Will I Turn To Now asks
Husky Tones with Attitude
Husky Tones, not as you have heard them before. This is the raw, urban blues with attitude which illustrates the direction Victoria Bourne and Chris Harper have taken the duo. Previously a four-piece band they now with have the energy of Victoria and Chris harnessed to the full on the new album showcasing their unique interpretation of contemporary blues as they ask Who Will I Turn To Now. The answer is Husky Tones for modern blues, described by them as Punk Blues. This is blues that is fresh, full of zing and attitude, slightly zany but always melodic and with textures that have grit this is a sound to get your teeth into.
The punk element is that these are songs of pain, protest and self-belief. Husky Tones, want you to sit back and go on a journey of discovery and self-awareness with blues that is for the here and now full of relevant beats and chords that hit the mark as Victoria spits out the vocals with melodic charm.
The album, Who Will I Turn To Now takes you on a journey via the power of Victoria’s drumming, the eloquence of her vocals and the guitar that radiates the texture of blues with attitude as Chris makes the six-strings purr, howl and jump for joy. Opening with Round The Wrekin; a West Midlands colloquialism taking the longest way to get to where you want to be a description says Victoria of the musical journey her and Chris have been on. The opener certainly hooks you in with guitar licks that make you want to learn more about the duo with a sense of the dramatic. Throughout the album, they remind me of the Two Timers with the depth and at the same time sparsity of sound. They know when to make a statement loud and clear and then they take the foot off the pedal. Jungle Blues is an example, here Victoria uses her voices as another instrument before picking up the lyrics laid bare above Chris’ guitar licks full of moody intent, reflecting the political message as we empathise with those caught in the refugee crisis. Perfect follow on to Momentum, with its optimism found in protest.
Half-way through an acoustic number has the power that silence and reflection hold. The Island of Barbed Wire is based on the experiences of Ludwig Dollitz, Victoria’s great uncle, interned on the Isle of Man as a German residing in the UK during WW1. The feeling of powerlessness resonates from a century ago to the global events of now. The rhythm is deep and strong on the title number Who Will I Turn To Now? Personal experience gives the words a passion and truth as Victoria explores her (she is not alone) experience of the Benefits system. Making you feel invisible, unimportant, worthless.
Then we are ready for fun and Husky Tones deliver that with upbeat party vibe These Hips Are Made For You, fast furious and still angry hence ‘punk-blues’. Closing with World’s End Lane, the album brings this part of the Husky Tones narrative using blues to a close. The album leaves you feeling emotionally drained yet empowered. Ready to protest and have an attitude that music is a force for change.
The album recorded at Platform Studio, Reading produced by Stuart Dixon has captured the essence of now. The feeling of loss, we want change, we want things to be better, fairer and a safer place to be. Husky Tones have set down the marker and the duo will be getting attention as they hit the road and the progression of this dynamic pair will be interesting.
Watch the video for Alcatraz it will catch your eye and the indie-pop beats will excite your listening experience.
The video is bright with its fun with vibrant tones and uplifting pop charm of the track. The band’s energy and modern 80’s style radiates throughout as they sing, dance and perform through an explosion of colour in this infectious slice of indie-pop pleasure.
The dynamic Yorkshire four-piece have been capturing the hearts of music fans across the country. Clash Magazine raved about the “fizzing hooks, buoyant energy, and tonnes of charm” that ‘Alcatraz’ delivers. It follows their previous single ‘Halo’, a powerful dancefloor anthem with a huge hooky chorus.

This is the third quarter of 2016 and all of these will be in with a shout for the Bluesdoodles Dozen of 2016.
The Quintet delivered music it is enthralling and delves into the darkness with rocking majesty. At the heart of LaVendore Rogue is the soul of Hokie Joint the band that always defied pigeon-holing. Up-front JoJo Burgess, with a vocal range and texture dexterity that defies comparison he delivers the lyrics with style, cynicism and more than a hint of menace. Joining him from Hokie is the guitarist Joel Fisk whose licks, slide and ability to make the guitar howl in answer to JoJo always adding that little bit extra. The third and definitely not the least at the back is Stephen ‘Cupsie’ Cutmore on drums picking up the beat from dark and hidden places and shining the light onto the rhythm that like a strobe light pierces the melody seeking attention as Rob “Tank” Barry picks up the bass line. Completing the quintet on keys Warren Lynn, whose keys adds an extra textural layer into the complexity that is LaVendore Rogue. The band has one foot in the music of Rolling Stones, Paul Rogers and the other exploring the array of contemporary rock and Rhythm n’ Blues.
La Vendore Rogue, is a complete band borrowing the best from Hokie Joint but never shrouded or swamped in the mantle as they create music that is roguish and has a textural interest that beguiles the listener wrapping the audience in the LaVendore sound. The album Light Up With, introduces the sound which continues to develop and take on a roguish shape a band visual exciting the music is dark, entertaining and tells a good story through lyrics and melodic lines.
JoJo is the charismatic front man, full of dramatic gestures augmenting the lyrics of old favourites Chocolate Cake, when celebrating Charlie Patton’s, Oh! Death with lyrics reflecting the stage tonight in front of the altar at The Convent. As JoJo sings, Just look what the Lord has done, Lord I know, Lord I know I’m coming home… Then the latest sound Gangsters, Thieves and Villains from the debut album, Light Up With along with Dead Man’s Chest. This is a quintet that wants to make waves, to be listened to and taken seriously as they create a sculptural sound that tells a story, evokes emotions and connects.
Tonight, LaVendore made an impression as they wowed the audience and will delight and continue to delight with a sound that is live and full of mystery. Spanning genres they are themselves true to the music they want to create and you want to listen too.
Closing with Mrs Jones, revamped and full of energy we listened on the edge of our seats as JoJo unveiled Mr Jones walking upstairs to see Mrs Jones in the afternoon. LaVendore Rogue catch them at a venue or festival whenever you can they will never disappoint and always entertain with fantastic music.
Going to be an awesome night of live music and a celebration. Buy Tickets NOW! –The Convent, Stroud HERE

John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers: Live in 1967 – Volume Two
Available Worldwide on Friday 6th May 20
Following the huge critical and commercial success of 2015’s John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers ‘Live in 1967’, Forty Below Records is pleased to announce the release of a second volume of live material from the legendary short-lived Bluesbreakers line-up of John Mayall (vocals, keyboards, harmonica), Peter Green (lead guitar), John McVie (bass) and Mick Fleetwood (drums)
Volume Two showcases three John Mayall self-penned tracks; the opening song, all-time blues classic ‘Tears in My Eyes’, ‘Chicago Line’,featuring a John McVie bass solo and ‘Please Don’t Tell’, which is a great example of the power-blues that The Bluesbreakerswere renowned for.
JOHN MAYALL ON THE ALBUM:
“I am so happy that the remaining usable tracks from these London club dates have been released as a follow-up to the well received Volume One. Peter Green, as before, is on fire throughout and this set includes a great instrumental based on his composition ‘Greeny’. There area couple of Otis Rush tracks that were included on the first volume but they are from different venues and totally different. I couldn’t possibly let these slide. Also, there is another version of T-Bone Walker’s’Stormy Monday’ that is sung by American Serviceman Ronnie Jones, who was lead singer with a British soul band and, who would frequently sit in at our gigs. John McVie gets in a great bass solo on ‘Chicago Line’ and Mick Fleetwood drives the whole set with his unique and powerful drumming. With these new tracks added to the collection, it pretty much features all the material we had in our repertoire at that time and I’m very glad that you can now enjoy this great piece of rock/blues history”.

NEW PORTALS – opening the way from Belfast, Mike and Ruth Aicken with their own brand of alt-pop. This is pop for the age of electronica with an ethereal feel echoes of Irish Folk in the rhythmic cadences of the lyrics.
Skyline with harmonies that ebb and flow, build and fade away this is the magic of lying on your back staring at clouds across the clear blue Skyline of summers day. A dreamy, enchanted state of heightened emotions.
Listen to Skyline and you will know why Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart have joined the millions who are supporting them on Spotify as the New Portals and previous folk project The Jepettos.
The whole album takes on a journey through the geography of the blues as the album explores the physical landscape of rivers, mountains and valleys by train. Other tracks explore emotional blues of love lost, misery and desperation. The eleven original tracks have a depth and musical arrangements that augment and add a wisdom to the lyrics. Tom Waits has lent his voice and soul to a stunning collection of performances celebrating legendary gospel bluesman Blind Willie Johnson. ‘God Don’t Never Change: The Songs Of Blind Willie Johnson’ is out through Alligator Records on 26th February and features two contributions by Tom, ‘The Soul of a Man’ and ‘John The Revelator,’ both originally recorded by Johnson in 1930.
A stunning collection of artists and performances celebrate the timeless music of legendary gospel bluesman Blind Willie Johnson. From Derek Trucks’ and Susan Tedeschi’s reverent reading of ‘Keep Your Lamp Trimmed And Burning’ to ‘Lucinda Williams’ slide guitar-fueled lament in ‘Nobody’s Fault But Mine,’ from Luther Dickinson’s spirited take on ‘Bye And Bye I’m Going To See The King’ (with The Rising Star Fife & Drum Band) to Tom Waits’ virtual embodiment of Johnson himself on ‘The Soul Of A Man’ and ‘John The Revelator’, this record is packed with incomparable recordings that speak as much to the greatness of the performers as they do the enduring legacy of Blind Willie Johnson.
In the summer of 2008, a group of legendary bluesmen, some of the last surviving members of the Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters bands, were brought together by director Scott Rosenbaum for a cameo appearance in his feature film, The Perfect Age of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Pinetop Perkins, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith and Hubert Sumlin were cast for their authenticity and ability to underscore the film’s critical subplot, the evolution of rock ‘n’ roll through the blues. During breaks in production, these bluesmen thrilled Rosenbaum with their tales of a lifetime spent on the road. First hand accounts of experiences with the mythical Robert Johnson, the larger-than-life Howlin’ Wolf, the seminal Muddy Waters and disciples such as Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones got the director’s creative wheels spinning. Between takes, Sumlin called Rosenbaum over to the bandstand and prophetically told him of his feeling that they would be working together again. In an instant, an idea that had been germinating with the director for years took root. Read moreHERE

ARTHUR JEFFES (PENGUIN CAFÉ) AND MARSHMALLOW LASER FEAST (MLF)
WORKING WITH GRAVITATIONAL WAVES DISCOVERY ASTROPHYSICIST SAMAYA
NISSANKE AND PLANET-HUNTING ASTROPHYSICIST JEAN-MICHEL DESERT ON
AUDIO VISUAL EXPERIENCE
“When we look up, whether in fear or in hope, we look as one. This makes for a remarkable perspective artistically speaking.” Arthur Jeffes 2016
Arthur explains how the music was written, ”The waveforms are exponential curves and as they approach the peak they speed up and shoot up in pitch accordingly. I took these curves and mapped them into MIDI patterns to get the notes for the piano lines. All the other sounds except for the strings come directly from the waveforms – I chopped them up, stretched them out, squashed them in, EQ’d them and compressed them and built up a pallet of new sounds to play with. The result is, I hope, a set of textures that allow one to get a sense of how the waveforms behave and at the same time allow for a beautiful musical narrative.”
Samaya reflects on the compositions, “Arthur has taken celestial chirps, sound signals of moving stars sent out billions of years ago, and incorporated them into music. It’s just amazing that we can actually listen for the first time to the most violent events in the Universe. We have opened up a new window or even sense to the Universe”.
Arthur and Samaya are working with creative team MLF to produce an audio visual experience to introduce, immerse and educate audiences in an awe-inspiring and magical show. For the second part of the project, Arthur and MLF are collaborating with planet-hunting astrophysicist Jean-Michel Desert to showcase and explore nine newly discovered Exoplanets (potentially life-supporting planets orbiting other suns discovered using the Hubble space telescope). The audience will be taken on a journey to visit Exoplanets and to immerse themselves in Gravitational Waves. The show ‘Gravitational Waves & Exoplanets’ (working title) will premiere later this year. Please click here for additional information on the project and to hear excerpts of the music – HERE
About Arthur Jeffes, Samaya Nissanke and MLF:
Arthur Jeffes is a musician, composer and producer working out of London. He is the founder and frontman of the renowned band Penguin Cafe and is one half of the band Sundog (with Oli Langford) and Aparat (with Mark Springer). Other work includes composing film scores and most recently producing Sam Lee’s highly acclaimed album ‘The Fade in Time’, released in 2015. In 2012, Jeffes was commissioned by the artist Nelly Ben-Hayoun to write several pieces for the NASA Kepler Project to be played by the International Space Orchestra. The pieces ‘1420’ and ‘Aurora’ were beamed into Space in 2013. ‘1420’ was inspired by the WOW! Signal.
Samaya Nissanke’s research focuses on the astrophysics of compact object (black holes, neutron stars and white dwarfs) binaries. She is particularly interested in modeling and now detecting their gravitational radiation and has spent most of her career working in General Relativity. She is now working with a suite of time-domain telescopes (space and ground) on detecting the electromagnetic counterparts and radiations emitted from these strong Gravitational Wave emitters.
Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF) is a creative studio that uses experimental technology to make work which reinterprets the idea of human perception. Their expertise has earned a reputation for creating the seemingly impossible – for producing installations that push boundaries, redefine expectations and excite audiences worldwide. Their work is responsive and spans kinetic sculpture, film, live performance and virtual reality. MLF’s approach is one of collaboration, working alongside technologists, engineers and makers to create bespoke software and hardware systems to realise their visions. PROVOGUE COMMEMORATES JEFF HEALEY’S 50TH BIRTHDAY WITH RELEASE OF 12 ORIGINAL SONGS ON ALBUM ‘HEAL MY SOUL’
Listen to the first new Jeff Healey song in 15 years ‘Daze of the Night’ here:
Watch the Album trailer – Heal My Soul:
“He was like another one of my sons… Jeff Healey… (exhales hard)… oh my God.” BB King
“He was SUCH a great musician… a voice that is missed.” Steve Lukather
“Jeff was one of the sweetest, most humble and talented artists I’ve met…” Bonnie Raitt
2016 marks the release of Heal My Soul – the extraordinary lost album from Jeff Healey which has never been heard before by the public. March 25th of this year would have seen Jeff turn 50 years old and this album begins the celebration of a milestone year for a true musical icon.
In a joint statement, Jeff Healey Estate Co-Administrators Cristie Healey and Roger Costa said, “Heal My Soul is a project that we have wanted to tackle for years. A ‘lost’ album, it contains material recorded during one of the most creative periods in Jeff’s rock career. Until now, it has never seen the light of day. Jeff was very proud of this work and it features some of the most powerful and impassioned performances he ever committed to record. With complete creative control we’ve laboured hard, tracking down recordings, identifying the right performances, restoring them to their proper stature and mixing and mastering them from the ground up. This has been a true labour of love for us from beginning to end and we’re absolutely thrilled to be able to finally share this significant release with the world.”
Healey died on March 2, 2008 at age 41 after a three-year battle with sarcoma cancer.

As the Mica sings, “You never know when trouble is going to come your way”.

Frontiers Music Srl is delighted to present one of the most talented new hard rock bands to emerge from the British underground scene – INGLORIOUS!
INGLORIOUS are five young men with a mutual love and respect of the classics of Hard Rock music, big guitar riffs, and soulful vocals. Their influences stem from iconic rock and roll shrine of Rock albums from the 1970s – many years before the band members were born. Formed in February 2014, the band is fronted by Nathan James, who made a name for himself having sung for the multi-platinum selling Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Scorpions guitar legend Uli Jon Roth.
Nathan was looking for like-minded musicians that desired to make incredible rock music in a very honest fashion. Inspired by musical giants such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, Bad Company, Aerosmith, the band has recently completed the recording of their self-titled debut album which will see the light of day in February 2016. The band’s song “Breakaway” has already found its way on to Planet Rock’s playlist.
Inglorious will appear live at the Planet Rockstock Festival in Trecco Bay, Wales on December 4th and are working to set more shows around the release of the album.

Boston’s Willard Grant Conspiracylast toured the UK in 2013 – His band is a loose, ever revolving cast of up to thirty musicians, with the only constant being singer and songwriter Robert Fisher, their Facebook page states, “If someone tells you they play with us, they probably do”.
Willard Grant Conspiracy have shared two new songs ahead of their UK tour, which starts Thursday 10th September in Glasgow. Robert Fisher explains a little bit about the songs: “These songs were recorded live in David Michael Curry’s living room. Jonah Sacks plays cello, DMC plays viola and Robert Fisher plays guitar and sings. The recordings were done as reference demos for future recordings; “Chasing Rabbits” was being played for the third time! The songs are a work in progress and you can hear the three of us listening to each other and reacting during the playing. We like the feel of these tracks and hope you do too.”

Dan Reed Talks about Music Networks, Solo and Life
BD: Hi Dan hope you are well, thank you for taking the time to speak to me this evening DR: Yes I’m well and ready to talk about Network and the new album.
BD: Dan Reed Network back together once again people are still digging the band what is the magic formula?
DR:First put the band together the network with musicians from different backgrounds and ethnicity. Our tastes in music is varied from Mozart to Miles Davies, Doobie Brothers to Led Zeppelin, Earth, Wind and Fire, Rush to Parliament; Rush to The Brothers Johnson. Blake has left and Rob now playing keys keeps that tradition, he is also a consummate guitar fusion rock etc. Dan Reed Network is still a mutual respect society having a great time. People connect to this and perhaps as they said we were ahead of our time so the music old and new continues to speak to the next generation.
Glad to be back with the Network. I have been doing solo for the last seven years. Solo work is more internal, the band is different with high energy, like a work out at the gym. I like both worlds of music solo and the Network.
BD: What if any differences have you found with the scene in the 21st Century? DR: I did quit from the music scene from 1994 -2006; during that time I travelled went off to find myself in India and then Jerusalem where I had a recording Studio. During my twelve years of I did many things including club owner and theatre work, then in 2009 started playing again.
The biggest change is the internet. It has changed and shaped our accessibility. The only way previously to reach out was record deal and fate was in the hands of A&R and believing in your music. The choice was survive locally or a deal and hope fame followed. Now with internet can be huge for example the success of Justin Bieber. This has grown to the tragic situation of the Kardashians famous no talent, famous for a sense of fashion perhaps, they are like many now famous for being famous. Reality TV feeds it this dream to be wealthy/ famous it is feeding into a shallow part of our Psyche. Then there are all the mechanical stuff, auto tune etc.
We have an addiction to our devices, social media replaces the need for real human contact. This need to be with people is fulfilled, can find music to listen to so why go out and discover your own live music. I find it interesting that Steve Jobs didn’t let his children have i-phone/pads. On a positive note DRN is re-connecting with fans and young people finding our music when we played shows with only new music eighteen months ago and now we have the new album.
BD: Tell our readers about Dan Reed Network going back into the studio to record your 4th album after a gap of 25 years since The Heat? DR: Actually, it is our 5th we recorded our debut album Breathless before we had a record deal. It was similar to what we did in past when all lived in home city. Then we did 12-track, rehearsed and went into studio. Now we do all the pre-production via internet as with time we have moved, with myself in Prague other members in Portland, Los Angeles and Honduras. Then once happy with this meet up and go into the studio. This is a change as we are all older, have families and the commitments they bring.
Still Funk-rock with the Network, solo is different mix of singer/songwriting with lots Middle Eastern instruments incorporated. The Dan Reed Network has changed lyrics are stronger but still hear what made us distinct back in the day.
BD: Having Listen to Fight Another Day does the title reflect the feeling of the band and its comeback.? DR: The album title has a double meaning for us. Yes the band back doing our music. Also the background of an American presidential candidate, who is popular through inciting fear. It is Trump I am referring to with his narrative of building wall between States and Mexico, not allowing Muslims etc, its is an archaic politics. Do we give in to this fear of immigration? Why is it okay to bomb others but terrorism if they bomb us? There is a different way that is growing momentum breathing hope into politics. Bernie Sanders has had more single donations than any candidate had raised the same money as Clinton without corporate deals. It is exciting the youth as Bernie is using compassion instead of wealth even the current Pope admires. No a fan of Popes in general but he has morals and attributes that Jesus spoke about. Fight Another Day we want to be on par with bands half our age. BD: So you see a change in the axis of society beliefs and motivations? DR: yes there is a turnaround not all about selling our egos and selfies. Our college students are getting active that has to be good.
BD: The track Reunite has a strong lyrical story with strong chorus and luscious chords is this a celebration of DNR getting it back together? DR: Originally composed by three Swedish guys for Eurovision who asked me to sing it. It is a cover with DRN giving it more edge rather than pop song. Encapsulated what DRN are about in the day not 100% out of my head and thought of me be asked to sing it. In the past we did a couple of B-sides that was a co-written by artists outside DRN. Never has a co-write been on an album, this track felt right though I had to fight to get it on the track listing, it was thought as being too Disco!
BD: Well I for one as a reviewer am glad it made the final cut as it is an excellent track and more Dance than Disco to my ears. DR: Well the drum has a disco beat, we will do video eventually for the track. BD: Looking forward to that.
BD: The music hooks back to the Funk-Rock sound of DRN of the 1980’s how has your music developed in the ensuing years? Not retro but with a foot in the past? DR: We have changed the guitar sound. It is not processed. Not run through pedals but plugged into fairly basic amps. The rhythm guitars have a little reverb no effect pedals. We have lost much of the synth sound. Recently saw AC/DC again last Summer, 60,000 people enjoying the rock with Angus and Brian. I thought this is as raw as it gets. AC/DC crank the amp up as high as we can without distortion and keeping up the sustain as long as possible. DRN continues with typical rock-synth bass like early albums. Drums didn’t use much effect all pretty dry. Rob Daiker keyboard and co-producer. He tracked and mixed the album, I co-produced his first album we have a long-standing working relationship. Feels organic rather than processed giving the sound a modern edge.
BD: Back on tour in Europe with one UK date promoting the album DR: June looking forward to being back on the road Pwllheli HRH festival last year, the feedback has been positive with the faithful and gaining new momentum. Not playing new music when played at Download 18 months ago. I was shocked at the response from young people asking why they hadn’t heard of the music where can they buy it. Most is no longer available and the music was written before they were born. Things change the rave scene carried over splitting distinct areas Electronica/groove and the grunge scene e.g Alice Without Chains with no electronic music on records. Bands like U2 who tried go with flow are few and far between.
BD: If you were putting together the perfect band with members from across the years (dead or alive) who would you have playing?
Drums: Bruce Carter Played with North-West funk band Pleasure and Cool’r always went to watch him play drums. Great grooves thick put down Bass: Jaco Pastorious Guitar Prince most underrated guitar player Keys: Jeff Lorberry – Jazz Vocals: Freddie Mercury
BD: Thank you once again for your time.
DR: Been fun and the band will sound mighty cool.

Nothing synthetic as The Jezabels – Synthia floats on authenticity
The Jezabels, third album Synthia floats with waves of sound rather than the tolling crash of drum and cymbal. Australian indie-band The Jezabels have built a following that grows as the sound seeps through the ether of your consciousness. The Brink, aptly titled second album as surrounded by the turmoil of illness and dislocation.
Why Synthia? As Hayley Mary describes in huge pictures it is the fusing of classics with electronica. The twinning of the Greek Goddess of the moon and synth pop-goddess Cyndi Lauper. The gendered concept of society is central to the band balanced with Hayley and Heather joining up with Sam and Nik and the music concept rock is totally male and yes feminine synthetic!
The vocals are Hayley’s gentle, cajoling with an edge do not be deceived this ethereal synth-pop with ragged teeth. Combining with the arsenal of keyboards that Heather manipulates so that the black and white keys lay a foundation of tones for the vocals to cascade through. Adding layers of tones are the men Sam on guitar and the drums supplied by Nick giving the music a feel of direction, in reality it is keys and vocals that dictate the music from the Jezabels. The sound produced has an organic, fluid, natural feel. This studio album has the breath of outdoors, wide space and fresh re-vitalising air. Opening with Stand and Deliver, creates an atmosphere of stepping out of reality and into Synthia’s new reality. It opens in a dream-like musical mist that opens up with drums and spoken vocals that work with an innocence this is not a masculine Highwayman but a something far more complicated. Unnatural is synthesizer driven, the words almost spoken and drumming takes second place. The lyrics drive through and dominate you have to take notice as the tempo and passion builds. This creates a movement of the music and a shape that is controlled but at the same time free-form.
Closing with Stamina seven minutes of musical drama. Opening with rippling guitar chords, vocals that carry you so that you find Stamina from the experience of the album that is Synthia. This exploration of women in the world of music, is a confident telling of the truth. Modern music is about the lyric, passion and doesn’t need to be shouted about, screamed or have loud driving riffs to get the message across. This is a feminine concept album progressive without the rock taking up the battle cry for women to stand-up and be heard, be yourselves. The Jezabels, Synthia is hooked in indie-pop, rooted in folk and challenging the perceived masculinity of rock with a feminine alternative.
All that said overall for me the album lacks that automatic feet tapping response. The music at times drifts on a sea of melody without a hard focus; steal a little bit of rock definition and this would have been up there with the stars of 2016 releases.

Australian quartet’s latest single ‘Pleasure Drive’, sees frontwoman Hayley Mary, and a diner full of women, overcome by an enchanting power which sees them take control back from their domineering partners.
