Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening Out June 2017

Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall - An Acoustic Evening Out June 2017

Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening Out June 2017 – On January 21st and 22nd 2016 world-renowned platinum-selling and Grammy-nominated blues-rock, singer-songwriter and guitarist Joe Bonamassa performed two unique all-acoustic shows at the iconic Carnegie Hall in New York City. Both performances were filmed and made into “Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening”.

“Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening” is an evening of extraordinary music with new arrangements of favourite songs as well as brand new, never-before-heard songs.

The line-up is completed with Reese Wynans (piano), Anton Fig (Drums) Eric Bazilian (mandolin, hurdy-gurdy, saxophone, acoustic guitar, vocals), and three Australian backing vocalists, Mahalia BarnesJuanita Tippins and Gary Pinto.

Bonamassa comments: “Despite being among the most ambitious things I’ve done – I played with a 9 piece acoustic band – It came out great. It was a typical Joe freak show.”

Everyone knows the old saying about how to get to Carnegie Hall, but Bonamassa has truly lived that advice. His entire life and musical career had been practice for this moment, and a young blues-boy finally made good on a childhood dream of playing one of the most hallowed stages in the world.

This stripped-down, all-acoustic show allowed his fans a glimpse into his soul and presented a thrilling and musically dangerous spectacle akin to walking a tightrope without a net.

Booked your tickets now listen to 24 Angels from the forthcoming album Stolen Hearts

Fourth track of the Album, 24 Angels  a song is about morality and forgiveness. While Erja wrote the lyrics she  was thinking of death row, when the final judgement comes. How does the person feel while walking that last walk? Relief? Fear?  Written in a more minor key and co-written with songwriter and guitarist Alan Darby. Last year I went to India to play some shows. During the slide solo I played an Indian scale with semitones, which gives the song a more of a mysterious vibe.

Legendary guitarist Eric Gales announces new studio album

Out 24th February via Mascot Label Group/Provogue HERE

Check out the brand new track ‘Carry Yourself’ here:

“One of the best, if not the best guitar player in the world” Joe Bonamassa

“He is absolutely incredible” Carlos Santana

“How Eric Gales isn’t the hugest name in rock guitar is a total mystery” Dave Navarro

“This guy could be the best player on Earth” Mark Tremonti

“Unfortunately you have to go through some things to be free”, says Memphis born Eric Gales. “Now, I feel the most free I’ve ever been in life, even more so than when I was a kid”, he opens up. “You gotta help yourself man, once you can help yourself you can genuinely help someone else.”

The title of his new album Middle of the Road will be released on 24 February 2017 and is the running theme throughout the record. “It’s about being fully focussed and centred in the middle of the road. If you’re on the wrong side and in the gravel you’re not too good and if you’re on the median strip that’s not too good either, so being in the middle of the road is the best place to be.”

Middle of the Road is Eric Gales fourth album on Provogue/Mascot label Group (Joe Bonamassa, Beth Hart, Black Stone Cherry, Warren Haynes, The Robert Cray Band, Robben Ford, Eric Johnson, The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band) after Transformation (2011), Relentless (2010) and The Psychedelic Underground (2007) and it sees him at his most expressive yet; it is a deeply personal and reflective record that echoes where he is in his life right now and he opens himself up and allows himself the chance to really flourish.

Recorded in several locations; Room A Studio and Fab’s Lab in North Hollywood as well as Cuz Studio and Sound in Cleveland, MS and ‘Cotton Row Studios in Memphis, TN. With Aaron Haggerty (drums), Dylan Wiggins (B3 Organ), LaDonna Gales (All backing vocals), Maxwell ‘Wizard’ Drummey (Mellotron on Repetition) and Eric Gales providing all lead vocals, guitar and bass. It’s a beautiful snapshot of life right here, right now. “I played bass on the entire record, it was beautiful” he beams. “I’m a bass player at heart so Fabrizio was like ‘bro you need to be playing the bass’. It was something that was very natural for me to too, I loved it.”

Talking about the accolades he is starting to receive he humbly adds;” It’s absolutely great, I’m grateful to see the recognition for the work that God has allowed me to continue to progress with. It’s beautiful to see the recognition to be finally coming and in the proper way, unlike times where I was engaged into heavy addiction, where it wasn’t such good publicity, but to see it be changed around, it’s a great turn of events.”

This refers to the time he spent in jail serving at the Shelby County Correction Center in 2009 for possession of drugs and a weapon. Elaborating he adds; “While I was in there all the officers and guards were like, ‘bro you know this isn’t where you’re supposed to be. When you get out of here, go take the world by the horns and ride it all the way out.’ It took a couple of years after but, I’m here.” Whilst he was incarcerated he was able to play shows, for the Mayor, the city and festivals, his own version of Johnny Cash Walk the Line.

This is where Middle of the Road finds the rebirth of Eric Gales.  A new album that has seen him more free than he’s ever been and on the biographic songs you take this journey with him. Along the way he brings in not only a host of guest and collaborators, but also those closest to him: Lauryn Hill, Gary Clark Jr, Eugene Gales, LaDonna Gales, Lance Lopez, Raphael Saadiq and Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram.

Much of the album is achingly heart on its sleeve and Change in Me [The Rebirth] is one of those moments, it’s about a new change in life. “I changed up some things in life and decided to go a new route”. “I wrote Carry Yourself with Raphael Saadiq and strangely enough, as I sit here looking at her that song is about LaDonna actually. It’s about how we met and how we grew to get to know each other through life and how she’s always carried herself. It has always been something I’m fascinated with. The only cover is the mesmerising interpretation of Boogie Man featuring Gary Clark Jr is something to behold.  “I’m a fan of Freddie King anyway and I like that song. I just enjoyed the original version and I just put a little twist on it and music wise.” “Basically”, Gales adds, “The Boogie Man is about, so watch out cos there’s a bad guy on the way and you know, I’m coming! I think me and Gary did a really good job on that song.” Continuing the rebirth is Help Yourself,  features 16 year old guitar sensation Christone ‘Kingsfish’ IngramI’ve Been Deceived has a multi-layered meaning to it. “Personally,  I was talking about how I was deceived by addiction” he confesses and on Repetition, he goes back to the very beginning and where it started by collaborating with his ‘mentor’ and older brother Eugene Gales

“When I say the world will hear about it, you’ll see what I mean when you hear the record,” he says. “This record is going to take me everywhere that I’ve never been, and everywhere I’ve ever wanted to go.” Eric Gales

Releases in first quarter 2017 are looking exciting and this is top of the pile when measure against the Bluesdoodles excitement meter!

Katie Bradley talking about C’est la vie and more

BD: Afternoon Katie, great to catch up with you and have a chance to talk about the forthcoming album and projects you are keeping you busy.

KB: Having a good time, keeping busy with projects and tours that keep rolling in.  So lots of variation in my approach to the Blues. I have been involved with Matt Long recording new material and I have a single out with a dance/electronic duo Jettricks – it is available via i-tunes and limited edition vinyl via my website.

BD: Tell us about the crowdfunding project with Indiegogo for your new album C’est la vie and choosing Indiegogo.

KB: I have invested a lot of time and money getting my exciting new project to this stage. Now on post production stage, feel it is going well people are being very generous. Crowd funding nearly reached half way and with eighteen days to raise the rest. The great thing about Indiegogo is that after paying a fee even if the full amount is not achieved I do still receive the money that has been raised by the end of the fundraising period. A good way of investing in an artist and getting something tangible in return

This is what your money is going towards

What We Need & What You Get

I have already invested what I can to the album to this point, so now we need your additional help to complete the process ready for release. In effect you are receiving the album in advance as a pre-order, with great bonuses and unique gifts available to this campaign as ‘perks’. Thank you for contributing and contributing to this venture, making it happen for us – not mentioning ordering a great present or a gift for yourself!

We are aiming to raise £3000 to cover:

  • Final studio session with special guests

  • CD production

Katie Bradley talking about C’est la vie and more

C’est La Vie Indiegogo Crowdfunding HERE

BD: So the album title is C’est la vie; has the blues got a French feel?

KB: No it hasn’t I just like the French take on life, very philosophical and I think that is true of the blues as well. Whatever hardships you come across you have to get on with it “such is life” so thought it was the perfect phrase. The title song has a line “C’est la vie comme ci comme ça that is the way we are baby”. Yes, to do with the philosophical edge of the French.

It has been exciting working on ‘C’est la vie’ with one of the UK’s most exciting and inventive guitarists, Chris Corcoran. Chris is an incredible artist who has been featured in Guitarist Magazine, and is internationally noted for his innovation and authenticity as a composer and musician. I have known Chris for over twenty years, only worked together closely for the last  three years playing on the London circuit, the live scene We have been talking about making an album over the three years but between us we have just been too busy. Chris has been playing over one-hundred & Eighty gigs a year. We didn’t want to do a covers album, didn’t see the point. So he came with some grooves with Jamie Lawrence on Bass and I wrote the words. Quite a few of the songs are quite personal feel that it is quite a magical feel on the album personally. On drums is Mike Thorne who has played with all sorts of people. They are all part of the London scene. There are really authentic Chicago 1950’s flavours but really inventive as well reflecting the diverse catalogue of the musicians creating a lovely mix. I had to get Paul Jobson involved on keys, Fender Rhodes, Hammond Organs and Grand Piano, he just sat there and played it plus he is doing some backing vocals with me a continuity from my first album She’s Ready.  Also joining us is percussionist Paul Elliott who is in a duo with Jamie called Jettricks which is really cool and funky.

BD: With that mix is there a funky groove going on as well?

Yes there is, we have variety across the tracks with a gospel number which is heartfelt with a Staples Singers  influence, then there is Southern  Soul,  New Orleans, Memphis, Sun Studios influences and one of them is definite funky, 1970’s diva style. There is a whole mix of influences and everyone has added there take on them even a jazzy one song about having a muse. Chris Corcoran playing stands out it is just lovely, very melodic. The whole album draws on all of our passions for traditional Blues and Roots whilst continuing the traditions through experiences and bringing them to you bound by infectious grooves and melodies

BD: Where was the album recorded?

KB: The album is being recorded at the brilliant Rimshot Studios in Kent, renowned for award winning records and recording artist’s and so we are in the best possible hands with Mike Thorne behind the desk as well as on the drums. The studio is perfection as it offers authentic microphones and expertly sourced recording equipment, ensuring techniques that are reminiscent of the old recording companies such as Stax and Chess.

BD: Is the album self-released?

KB: Yes it is. The plan is to move it forward with an international release on a record label. The idea is to use the crowdfunding to have all the promotional material of a quality to get the album noticed and out there.

It is going to be released on CD, Had lots enquiries regarding vinyl so may bring out a single on vinyl. Vinyl is attracting young people. Whole new generation who are finding the blues through dance like a flash mob almost? as after a lesson in  Brixton & Islington  they dance to live music Would love to integrate this into festivals.

BD: Is there a release Date?

KB: End of January with a launch night in February. Check out the crowdfunding as one of the rewards is tickets for this event and you can be there at the launch of C’est la vie.

BD: With the album out early 2017 what other plans in the pipeline?

KB: Other things happening new website with shop. Some rather nice gigs including support to Popa Chubby at 100 Club in January and tour and festivals planned over Europe and the U.K. Keep in touch with Katie over at her Website HERE.

Zeal & Ardour With Tour Dates and Album plans

Zeal & Ardour With Tour Dates and Album plansZEAL & ARDOR SIGN TO MVKA

Zeal & Ardour With Tour Dates and Album plansThe forthcoming album ‘Devil Is Fine’ – set for release February 24, 2017 –  thematically revolves around more typical black metal fare – rituals, human sacrifice, fire, and blood. Zeal & Ardor take the blaspheme up a notch by delivering the lyrics in the fashion of slave spirituals sung by chain gangs. Black metal from the cotton fields.

Zeal & Ardor is the one-man brainchild of Swiss-American musician Manuel Gagneux. His approach draws on an alternate history and stems from two thoughts: Christianity was imposed upon American slaves (just as it was imposed in Norway) and black metal in the ‘90s grew as a rebellion to monotheism. What would have happened if American slaves had rebelled in the same way? Or put bluntly: what would satanic spirituals sound like?

Zeal & Ardour With Tour Dates and Album plans The double first single, which includes album title track ‘Devil Is Fine’ and ‘Children’s Summon’, is set for release in Europe on November 11.  Pre-orders for the ‘Devil Is Fine’ album, described by Noisey as “one of the year’s most intriguing”, launch the same day.
Having listened to the single’s first side Devil Is Fine, not once, twice or three times it has left me a mixture of excited, intrigued and confused. This is not  Blues  simply revisited and rewritten it has been re-imagined as to what the voices of slaves would sound like today.  The sound is a mash-up as the essence of blues meets metal and gospel colliding with electronica. The beat is pagan, the chains clang with painful memories and the  music is totally dark and modern as the holler of the chain gang rings loud and clear. The pain is deep with the vocals full of open pain and anguish. This is a loud message that will gain attention across the genres of music.  The genre is mixed and has been garnering attention online since April 2016 belongs to Zeal & Ardor.
Gagneux comments, “Devil Is Fine was not created thinking that this many would ever hear it. There is no stylistic compromise or pandering on it. Only things I personally like.”

Zeal & Ardor intend to bring the live experience to Europe in Spring 2017. When asked earlier this year by toiletovhell  about performing live, Gagneux commented, “I’d really like it to be somewhere between a concert and a seriously f*cked up play. Not just something people haven’t heard before, but something people have never seen before, leaving them frightened, weak, and loving it. That is the thing I’m currently striving for.” The following dates are now on sale:

Rik Emmet & RESolution 9 Album Delivers as Resolved

Rik Emmet & RESolution 9 Album Delivers as Resolved

We all make resolutions, listening to quality music is an easy one to keep, put Res 9 on and sit back and enjoy the bluesy rock fuelled ride taking you on across the eleven tracks. This is blues that sparks with the electricity of musicians that are playing at the top of the game. The line-up joining Rik Emmet’s guitar and vocals are Dave Dunlap, guitar and Steve Skingley on Bass and Keys and completing the rhythm section is Paul DeLong on drums. Then adding to the excitement are a number of guest James LaBrie vocals via Dream Theatre, Alex Lifeson, Rush guitarist, the rhythm section are a Triumph Mike Levine bass is joined by drummer Gil Moore. This is Canadian Rockers that have resolved to come together and create an album with a sting in its tail.

Res 9 a debut album for this line up and a welcome return of Rik Emmett and the album promised a lot. If you were expecting solid classic hard-core rock with clashes of guitar then you will not be disappointed. The album is much more considered, the instruments are in control the vocals are strong, but unfortunately the lyrics are at times rather weak for a blues driven rock album.

Opening with Stand Still the rolling blues guitar is definitely not standing still. This is a track that is driving blues with a ZZ Top feel and even the Red House is mentioned as blues are given an out with stinging guitar and Riks vocals imploring us to relax with an intimidating growl that is to be obeyed!

Four tracks have special guests and you do not have to wait long before Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson makes his first appearance on the second number Human Race. Adding to the Dunlap Emmett guitar partnership is the twelve-string of Alex adding that tonal power that gives the number an attention grabbing vibe as the last note fades and the last lyrics ‘I’m still this guy. I still live this”. Then a change of tempo as I Sing with Dream Theatre’s vocalist James LaBrie, he sings for his supper with vocals that rise above he will never go hungry. Now three tracks in the album had me hooked, not as a reviewer but a lover of music that weaves with the blues and creates music for now and not yesterday. Both Alex & James join in the fun on the last track End Of The Line. With a rocking riff the track opens and the drums are secure as the vocals take up the guitar challenge. This is a guitar number with not one, but three exhilarating guitar solos the third being a Lifeson special what a last track full of rock energy verve and style with all the excitement of a blues jam. Wait, all is not over, there is a bonus track as joining the band on Grand Parade is Gil Moore & Mike Levine a triumph of rhythm. The bonus is a slower ballad infused number, acoustic and floats on a sea of blue that laps around the shoreline.

The numbers that the band are left to their own devices are full of blues, ballads and emotions. Rik’s vocals on My Cathedral are laid back reflecting the soothing guitar. The trend continues with the slow mournful The Ghost Of Shadow Town that has drumming the makes the foundation solid. This is a track that needs strong power infused lyrics and they miss the mark for me. Blues colour the next two tracks exploring the link that connects rock and the blues with Sweet Tooth. Just as you are smothered by laid back vibes rock hits the spot and Heads Up we have hooks and chorus that re-energises the album before the smooth road home.

There is no doubt that Res 9 is an album that intrigues, whets the appetite with the mix of slow and intense blues and rock and the interface where the morphing of blues jam into a harder rock number. The album is an exploration of guitars relationships with vocals, the losers here at times are the vocals as the songs are just not strong enough to be a real triumph of narrative driven blues rock.

Rob Tognoni The TasMANian Devil New Album Brave Now Out

Having heard Rob Tognoni live at HRH Blues 2016, I was excited at the opportunity  to listen to the single Brave from the album. Bluesdoodles predicts that the  single will get lots of airplay. Why? It is strong, brave rock with a hard vein of blues flowing through. The vocals have power and purpose the drumming kicks up the beat and then the blue icing that fills the track  Rob Tognoni’s guitar. The tone, pace the riffs that fit into a pocket earworm that you want to carry around this is a confident number that sets out the stall and makes you run to get the album Brave.  This is easily done as Rob is on Tour in the UK throughout November.

Frontman Michael Hobby “Travelin’ Man is one of our favourite songs to perform live” and this video shows why as they sing about being on the road ready to play the music fans love to  here.

The video features the band in various live performances and backstage footage from their huge US tour supporting Jason Aldean earlier this year.  Travelin’ Man is full of Southern heat with that finger licking guitar and vocals that curls around like swamp water lapping at the edge of a bayou. It is energetic, full of hooky guitar licks, harmonica squeals and is a thumping country-rock anthem taken from their rave reviewed debut album Southernality on sale HERE

The band have been making a real name for themselves in the UK, being one of the most talk about bands after their phenomenal performance at C2C this year as well as Planet Rock playlisting four of their previous tracks including the title-track ’Southernality’. They are also nominated for ‘Best New Band’ at this year’s Classic Rock Awards and were nominated for ‘Group Of The Year’ at the Academy of Country Music Awards this year.

The songs are written for the punk-blues album with working title Who Will I Turn To.  With Victoria;s dynamic drumming and pure and emotional vocals combine with Chris’s guitar that sings and adds deep licks and memorable riffs.

Wild Guitar with Joanne Shaw Taylor

Wild Guitar with Joanne Shaw Taylor

Wild Guitar with Joanne Shaw Taylor

The album Wild is Joanne Shaw Taylor brimming with confidence. There is maturity of sound, the guitar work is a compelling mix of sharp, bluesy then a lead break with a rocking energy  depending on the track. The production by Kevin Shirley is superb and makes this her fifth studio album the best that Joanne has unleashed for her fans to go wild over.

Opening with Dyin’ to Know you and anybody who hasn’t heard Joanne Shaw Taylor before will want to get to know her music real fast with this raw edgy blues riff driven number.  As you sit back enjoying her blues you are then thrown in Ready To Roll, a bucking bronco wild ride of squealing guitar energy and a band that adds depth to the JST tone throughout. The musicians from Joe Bonamassa’s band hit the mark letting the guitar sing and the vocals growl with a melodic intent.   It is the subtle lick and interactions from Rob McNally’s guitar and Michael Rhodes bass that acts as an underscoring always there but never dominating that fills in the textures to the tone of Joanne’s guitar.

With the pre-release single No Reason To Stay, we are back on home territory blues that has a rock vibe, riffs that flow and keys that punctuate. But it is so much more, Joanne adds her sparkle, and shapes this seemingly traditional number into a track that stands out in the crowd.  Following on is Wild Is The Wind a stunning song full of lyrical emotion and melodies that pull the listener deep into the soul of the song.  A quieter side of Joanne full of passion and her vocals have a maturity and simple beauty that is found throughout the album.

The contrasts in the tracks are startling as the romance and softer side are then full of angst. Then we have a slighty grungy guitar for I’m In Chains, with the backing vocal echoing JST’s I’m In Chains. We feel trapped as the words and guitar grow in intensity and the continuing staccato guitar riff that will make this edgy number instantly recognizable.

The numbers are not all angst and sorrow we have fun from the off with the horns arranged by Lee Thornburg  calling us to join her party with My Hearts Got A Mind of Its Own.   Then the rock infused penultimate track now the party is kickin’ with Nothin’ To Lose.

The songwriting on the ten original tracks is strong with Joanne collaborating with various writers giving the lyrics the power to match her scintillating guitar that will always get her noticed. The last track the only cover is the Gershwin number Summertime, an unexpected addition to the mix, does it work? Yes! It does. The piano is a perfect foil to Joanne’s vocals that are raw, emotional and full of texture as she controls the lyrics, as she mixes Ella with Janis then making the number her own. A Stripped back calm number finishing the album leaves you crazy to see her live.

There is a ferocity in the delivery that makes this an album where you want to hear the music live, the tempo and a sense of purpose that has a wildness in its sense of freedom. Joanne Shaw Taylor’s mighty potential has been unleashed and set free resulting in a ride of musical delights that is compelling and Wild.
