Grammy Nominated Artists Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa release their new record ‘Black Coffee’

January 26th 2018 via: Provogue (Europe) and J&R Adventures (US & Canada)

Featuring songs made famous by Edgar Winter, Ray Charles, Etta James, Steve Marriot, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Lucinda Williams, LaVern Baker & more.

Check out the video for Black Coffee here:

It has been 4 years since Grammy nominated and number 1 Billboard Blues album Seesaw was released by singer-songwriter and blues-rock powerhouse Beth Hart and guitar hero Joe Bonamassa. Since then, they have both been on fire, both in the studio and live. So, the time was perfect to reunite for another collection of ten soul gems that encompass Hart’s breath-taking vocals and Joe’s masterfully expressive playing. Black Coffee will be released on January 26th, 2018.

With producer extraordinaire Kevin ‘The Caveman’ Shirley (Joe Bonamassa, Led Zeppelin, Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Rush) back at the helm, the result digs deep into the soul catalogue where they honour and re-imagine songs from Edgar Winter, Etta, James, Ike & Tina Turner/Steve Marriot, Ella Fitzgerald, Lil’ Green, LaVern Baker, Howlin’ Wolf, Lucinda Williams and Waldeck.

Recorded in 5 days at Studio at the Palms, Las Vegas in August 2016 they have once again recalled some familiar names to provide the depth of instrumentation including Anton Fig (Drums/Percussion), Ron Dziubla (Saxophone), Lee Thornburg (Horn Arrangements/Trumpet/Trombone) and welcomed in Reese Wynans (Keyboards), Michael Rhodes (Bass).

Talking about the sessions behind Black Coffee, Seesaw, 2011’s Don’t Explain and 2014’s Live in Amsterdam, Shirley gives some insight of what they are looking to achieve; “We’re trying not to dig into a playbook that’s been done many times, which is the old soul classics. We try and find a different spin on it; originally, it was about trying to find some songs that people didn’t know at all and bring them back to people’s attention.”

One such song was Give It Everything You Got, taken from 1971’s Edgar Winter’s White Trash album. With its hard rock meets Stax infused sound, the band delivers a formidable performance. “I don’t think that’s a song a lot of people know; it’s an old soul classic, but it’s not really one you might expect,” says Shirley

“One of the things Jeff Beck had said to me once that I thought was so wonderful,” explains Hart, was “as soon as you get comfortable, and if you stay there, you’re just gonna start dying as an artist. And I feel that one of the gifts that I’ve got with working with Joe is that I’m always uncomfortable – in a good way. “

Shirley adds about the band, ”those guys just played live and it was incredible to be in the studio when that happens.”

“For me I’m able to explore the kind of music I have always admired from afar,” reveals Bonamassa. “But you don’t want to hear me singing Ella Fitzgerald…” he explained as Beth joins in. “I would never do Ella Fitzgerald without being with Joe, the things I get to do with you are things I grew up always wanting to do, but never believed I could.”

The title track harnesses prime Steve Marriott on his take of Ike & Tina Turner’s Black Coffee. The inspiration came from his 1973 live version on the BBC’s Old Grey Whistle Test.

“It’s really predicated on the vocals,” Bonamassa explains. “We can’t cut these tunes without Beth singing and once she starts singing, it’s the glue that inspires us to get the extra 10% out of the playing. If we just cut them and sang later, the magic wouldn’t be there.”

“That’s something the two of us stopped doing many years ago,” agrees Hart. “There was all this layering, and then it’s time for you to sing. It’s like you’re not even making music anymore. There’s nothing like being able to sit there live and see Joe, seeing the drums, seeing the bass, being able to see Kevin. I can feel the vibrations, it changes the whole thing.”

“Kevin really gets that,” she continues. “It works the best. In the old days, that’s how they did it; bad ass singers and bad ass musicians would have a couple of hours to get a whole record done.”

One of the key aspects of the sessions is to push everyone as much as possible. “They are always out of their comfort zone in the studio; this session especially wasn’t comfortable,” Shirley reveals. “This isn’t a summer in the grass session, just a couple of chords; this is people digging in. Everyone left feeling totally challenged, and at the end of the day, completely enthusiastic.”

Sterling Ball, John Ferraro & Jim Cox will be releasing The Mutual Admiration Society on 19 January 2018 via Mascot Label Group.

Check out the first song ‘Sugar Shack’ ft Steve Vai here:

The seeds of The Mutual Admiration Society were planted a long time ago, back in 1972 to be precise. A young Sterling Ball, was introduced to the sound of Albert Lee by his father, Ernie Ball. It was during his time in Country Rock band Head, Hands & Feet, who were opening for Jethro Tull at a local show and Ball went to see them two nights in a row and then for a third successive night at Hollywood’s Whiskey A Go Go. He was hooked, they met the next day and developed a life-long friendship.

Sterling and John Ferraro went to school together in Junior High; in high school, they started playing music together. After high school, Sterling joined a very small Ernie Ball Company (and later became CEO of Ernie Ball Music Man) and John and went on to College at Long Beach State where he met Jim Cox.

Fast forward to 1983 when they formed Biff Baby’s All Stars – a loose and fun collective that toured the world for 30 years. Sterling wanted to start a band to play the Southern California club scene. He was always the bass player but loved playing guitar. This band was going to be his chance to play guitar.  He called John and told him about it; John was in! Jim wasn’t far behind. He then asked his brother Sherwood who was an LA session singer and voice-over artist. He also roped in his friend Freebo to play bass. He told Albert about it and Albert said, “I want to play in it.”  So, it was back to playing bass for Sterling.

A 45 min jam of Radar Love at Sterling’s 30th Birthday party was enough to convince Steve Morse (Dixie Dregs, Deep Purple, Kansas, Flying Colors) whilst a music and BBQ bonding session with John Petrucci (Dream Theater) added him to the long list of stellar collaborators. Sterling and Steve Lukather became close through a mutual friend and master producer, guitarist, and writer, Jay Graydon.  Other players would come visit would end up sitting in at gigs, Steve Vai joined them during a show for the Casey Lee Ball Foundation – a  non-profit organization to raise money for paediatric kidney research.

John Petrucci (Dream Theater) was thinking of joining the Ernie Ball Music Man roster. John came to San Luis Obispo and they met at Sterling’s house for one of his barbecue parties. They talked guitars and stayed up late listening to everyone from Buddy Emmons to Ted Greene.

One day Sterling called John and said, “Let’s make a record together, just you and I.”  It was a good intention, but The Mutual Admiration Society ended up being the end result.  The album was recorded at Gordon Rustvold’s Broken Prop Studio in Fountain Valley California; produced by Ball, Ferraro, Cox, Engineered by Bill Evans, Tracked by Gordon Rustvold, mixed by Rich Mouser,  and mastered by Robert Vosgien.

Steve Morse heard a song and pretty much asked if he could participate. You don’t say “no” to Steve Morse if he wants to play on a record. The result? The Dobie Gray classic The In Crowd, Morse said; “Sterling and I have known each other for over 30 years. I’ve always enjoyed playing with Jimmy, John, and him. This was a project that I really wanted to jump into after I heard it. After listening to the great groove on In Crowd, I asked if I could add some guitar to that. Luckily, they agreed!  I approached it as if we were playing a show together; when John brings down the band with a certain type of snare hit, I tried to imagine us at a little club somewhere having a blast. This is a fun record, and we all got to hear the whole thing together, laughing and smiling the whole time.”

Then, Lukather heard Steve played and wanted to play on a track. He recorded the Delta Blues Baby, Please Don’t Go at 12 times Grammy Nominated producer, Jay Graydon’s Garden Rake Studio.

Steve Vai heard the tracks and asked if we would consider cutting an old favourite track of his from his youth, Sugar Shack. “I can count on one crippled hand the amount of times I actually asked someone if I can play on their record and this was one of them. When Sterling gave me the green light and asked what song I would like his excellent combo to work up, the song that came to mind was the old 1963 hit by Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs, Sugar Shack. For some reason, that song was huge for me when I was 4 years old, and it stuck! My goal with the melody was to try and retain the innocence and charm of the original.”

Albert saw a picture from the sessions on Facebook from the road and sent a message, “I hope there is room for me!” and so Buck Owens’ Crying Time and Hank Williams’ Hey Good Looking came together.

John Petrucci was concerned with what he would play. “When I heard a few of the early recordings Sterling had done for this album and how much fun my brothers-in-shred were having playing on it, I just knew I had to be a part of things; and therefore, was so thrilled when he said, ‘Of course! ” Petrucci said.

Continuing he adds; “Truth is, I really wasn’t sure what tune to do and the fact that Sterling was paying homage to music that he grew up with and had such special meaning to him, it was a bit intimidating trying to pick a song to play on. That’s why I was so happy when Sterling (knowing I was a huge Disnerd) suggested playing a Disney song together. I thought it was the perfect idea! In keeping with the spirit of the album’s classic song selections, we decided that a medley of tunes from a couple of 1940’s animated Disney movies and some old-school Disneyland/Disney World theme park songs would make for the ultimate guitar-powered walk down ‘Main Street USA.”

Other classics such as Sonny Boy Williamsons’ Checkin’ Up On My Baby, Roy Heads’ Treat Her Right (which features in the Commitments), Chuck Berry’s Memphis, Tennessee [aka Memphis] and The Jackson 5’s I Want You Back all get the Mutual Admiration Society’s formidable treatment.

What was supposed to be a record by a drummer and bassist/guitarist turned into the Mutual Admiration Society.  An unintended celebration of up to forty years of friends making music together.

Mascot Label Group is proud to announce a new and exciting alliance with guitar legend Steve Vai’s Favored Nations Records label.

This strategic partnership is a reflection of the synergy created by the respect that Vai’s Favored Nations has garnered as one of the record industry’s leading boutique guitar oriented recording label, and the strength offered by Mascot Label Group as one of the bigger and still growing independent purveyors of recorded music in the world.

Steve Vai will continue to spearhead his label’s artists and repertoire department, but Favored Nations Entertainment will now benefit from the advantages of Mascot’s well-established business structure, which will provide strong marketing, publicity, and distribution on a worldwide basis.

The Koch Marshall Trio Debut Album Announcement

The Mascot Label Group’s new imprint The Players Club are thrilled to announce the debut album from The Koch Marshall Trio, Toby Arriveswhich will be released on 23rd February 2018.  The trio are American guitarist Koch Marshall, his son Dylan on Drums and Hammond B3 specialist Toby Lee Marshall.

At the heart of this organ trio is a blues sensibility – but Koch’s compositions are an amalgam of rock, funk, jazz and country served up with heavy grooves and dynamic improvisations delivered with no small dose of humour and occasional wild abandon.
Milwaukee native Greg Koch has forged a successful career as a guitar player’s guitarist and has been called “scary good” by guitar phenomenon Joe Bonamassa. In addition to his 15 releases on multiple record labels which feature his unique take on a variety of American guitar styles and his versatile compositions, Koch is widely known for his lengthy tenure as an international ambassador for Fender Guitars. He is also a best-selling author and video instructor for music publisher Hal Leonard. For the last few years, Greg is renowned for his wildly popular internet videos (which number in the thousands with views exceeding 50 million) originating from the legendary Colorado guitar shop Wildwood Guitars.
Dylan Koch gravitated to the drums early on in his life using kitchen utensils to play along with music as soon as he could walk. After digesting an early diet of Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell and John Bonham, Dylan was mentored by the legendary Tom Brechtlein (Chick Corea/Robben Ford). While still in his teens he performed with young guitar guns Tallan Noble Latz and Jared James Nichols and has performed alongside his father with such artists as Robben Ford, Little Feat’s Paul Barrere, Jon Cleary, David Grissom, Roscoe Beck and Malford Milligan.
Toby Lee Marshall’s screaming B3 is the perfect complement to the musical stew that is the Koch songbook. His fascination for the Hammond B3 took hold after his Dad took him to see Steve Cherewan playing with Dr Mambo’s Combo at their legendary residency at Bunker’s in Minneapolis. Steve mentored Toby in the ways of the B3 and he hit the ground running landing a gig with bluesman Lonnie Brooks while still a teen. He would go on to travel the world as a member of Bernard Allison’s band. After taking a hiatus to spend some family time, Toby is returning to music with a vehemence and the Koch-Marshall format gives him a long leash to let his freak flag fly, providing groovy bass lines, sinuous chordal work and incendiary solos.
The trio blends the explosive guitar manipulations of Greg, the groove-centric, power-pocket playing of his son Dylan on drums (who share many telepathic musical moments) and the glorious, Hammond organ stylings of the uber-talented Toby Marshall, Greg’s compositions are properly portrayed in the blues-drenched, funk, chicken-fried, gospelly, jazz-rock panorama in which they were conceived. Their first release, Toby Arrives the first moments of their unexpected musical partnership captured at an extemporaneous jam session earlier in the year.

“So we went over there…the drums and B-3 were already set up and mic’ed. I sat down with my guitar and said, ‘Let’s just do a shuffle in G.’ And as soon as I heard it back I said, ‘We’re releasing this!’ So the very first notes we ever played is that first song you hear on the album, totally unrehearsed. And just from that very first tune I was like, ‘Holy shit! This is not your grandfather’s organ trio!’” Greg Koch
“Toby had actually retired from music,” Koch says of the 39-year-old Hammond B-3 ace. “For the last several years he’s been working for a farm, driving a semi and taking crops to the Twin Cities from River Falls. He had two young kids so he decided to stop touring to help raise the kids. For Toby, it was kind of like that scene in The Godfather where Michael Corleone says, ‘Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!’ But now he’s so excited to be playing in this trio because this is just such a perfect format for him to let his freak flag fly. It’s the perfect combination of this kind of churchy, bluesy, funky, jazzy, rock, chicken-pickin’ thing, and he fits right in.”

Robert Plant Solo Album Carry Fire Music Burns Deep

Robert Plant Solo Album Carry Fire Music Burns Deep

Robert Plant’s Solo Album Carry Fire the music burns deep. The music has hidden depths, as layers of tonal shapes and textures interlace with the thoughtful lyrics. Carry Fire is rooted in the earth, ethereal as air, turbulent as water and hot as fire as the four elements encapsulated across the eleven tracks. Joining Plant on his eleventh solo album for the second time are The Sensational Shape Shifters. The tonal range of the album is mellow and fruitful as Plant captures a misty melancholy yearning that is often felt in autumn. The colours are rich and fiery but these soon will fade as the year turns and seasons come and go.  The soundscapes are painted that weaves through the tracks shaped by the instruments chosen as the passions wax and wane. Opening Carry Fire, with a jaunty number The May Queen we start off looking forward or back to a different season. The percussive beats hint at dance, light and merriment and surrendering as folk and rock merge at a crossroads of Plant’s own design contemporary and rooted deep in the roots of world folk traditions from North Africa and closer to home. Beguiling leaving you wanting to hear more as we Carry Fire on a journey with the lyrics of Robert Plant once more.

The use of a myriad of instruments on Carry Fire reflects the wealth of tones available to artists like Plant and Steve Hackett’s album Siren Nights earlier this year. Modern folk/roots/rock music is not just guitar led it is strengthened with the tonal complexity of instruments used across the world rooted in the earth creating a fiery musical backdrop.   The array of instruments is a reflection of the virtuosity of The Sensational Space Shifters, who are with a selection of the instruments captured on Carry Fire. They are Austin Adams (Guitars, Oud, Percussion & Tambourine) Liam “Skin” Tyson, (Guitars, Dobro, twelve string, pedal steel etc.) John Baggott, (Keyboards, Moog, t’bal, bendir, slide guitar) Dave Smith (bendir, djembe, drums) and joining them are Seth Lakeman (Viola & fiddle) and Albanian Cellist Redi Hasa.

We are on the move, a feeling of urgency with the beating of drums as Plant explores the negativity of colonialism and modern topics that are part of the political, cultural and personal landscapes with nationalism addressed in Carving Up the World Again… A Wall Not A Fence. The beat is frenetic, his voice raised in passionate anger as he spits out the words. The instruments burn and coil around the lyrics, the attention is one-hundred percent on Plant’s impassioned lyrical outpouring. Powerful music for the age.

The title track coalesces around the instruments conjuring a fire in the deep darkness of a desert encampment. Plant once again captures the mood with the depth of lyric and the power of delivery. Deeper and with a sultry edge the younger Plant voice did not deliver. Age has shaped the interpretation of lyrics and music. The traditional North African instruments a song of love and the pain we inflict on ourselves and each other full of wistfulness and hope as Robert sings “I will Carry Fire for you….”  Once again the song is rooted in tradition ground deep in the desert sands.

The tonal resonance changes with Bones Of Saints, hard-edged less fusion more rock. On the only cover on the album, Ersel Hickey’s  Bluebirds Over The Mountain, Robert Plant is joined by a Chrissie Hynde the vocals reflect the changes in vocal ranges.  The play of percussive power and violin adds to the hunger and energy in the number. Closing the album with Heaven Sent, the embers of Carry Fire are fading and the song gently leads us to the closing notes. Seasons turn and we all age. This is a testament to the longevity of Robert Plant who has delivered a beautiful reflective album. The hints of his past musical explorations can be heard as gentle echoes. They never overwhelm Carry Fire an album-defining Robert Plant in 2017.

South African singer-songwriter and guitarist, Dan Patlansky, is set to the release his new studio album Perfection Kills in the UK on Friday 2nd February 2018. The album is the follow up to 2016’s critically acclaimed Introvertigo which was voted #1 BluesRock Album 2016 by Blues Rock Review.

Bluesdoodles loved the album Introvertivgo we said this and more “Introvertigo with its carefully crafted lyrics that blend urbane wit and honest observation, this is blues pertinent to today’s lifestyles, not so much whiskey and women more the corruption of power and social interaction. Ten tracks there are no fillers every number is full of strength and tonal power but there is not an off note or lyric”.

To dovetail with the release of the new album, Dan will be the special guest on Joanne Shaw Taylor’s nationwide 7-date UK tour that starts on Tuesday 7th November at Gateshead Sage. To coincide with the tour, he will release a new single Dog Day taken from the Perfection Kills album.  Dan said “There’s going to be a big emphasis on a lot of touring around the new record which I can’t wait for. November 2017 I will be touring with Joanne Shaw Taylor in the U.K and will perform the first single, Dog Day, live for the first time. March 2018 we return to U.K/Europe for the Perfection Kills album launch tour.

Patlansky was nominated as one of Classic Rock magazine’s hotly tipped new artists of 2015. His album, Dear Silence Thieves received accolades and praise from the British press. He’s been voted Most Promising Male Blues Artist by Blues & Soul Magazine, and only recently has he been nominated as Best International Solo Artist at the Planet Rock Radio ‘Rocks’ Awards.

2018 Dan Patlansky UK Tour Plus New Album Perfection KillsPerfection Kills was recorded at Scherzo Productions, a recording studio in Dan’s hometown of Pretoria, South Africa. Dan chose Scherzo because he wanted to make a different sounding record and he felt it was the right studio for his vision.

Patlansky produced the album himself, something he hadn’t done in years. Says Dan, “I learnt so much working with Theo Crous who was the producer on previous two albums Dear Silence Thieves and Introvertigo. I worked on pre-production and songwriting with Theo on a couple of the tracks for Perfection Kills and applied what I learnt to the recording and production process of the album.”

Perfection Kills is all about my vision of making a record that still make the songwriting a priority as in the past, the final product delivers a far more real and organic result.”

SAMANTHA FISH RELEASES NEW ALBUM “BELLE OF THE WEST” ON FRIDAY 17TH NOVEMBER
UK TOUR STARTS ON MONDAY 20TH NOVEMBER

Multi-Award winning American Blues guitarist and singer-songwriter, Samantha Fish, will release her new studio album Belle of the West on Ruf Records on Friday 17th November 2017.  The new album will be supported by a nationwide 8-date UK tour that kicks off at The Stables in Milton Keynes on Monday 20th November.

“You should always get outside of the box,” Samantha Fish says while discussing her boundary-breaking new album Belle of the West. “Challenging yourself is how you grow.”

After launching her recording career in 2009, Samantha quickly established herself as a rising star in the contemporary blues world. Since then, the charismatic young singer-guitarist-songwriter has earned a reputation as a rising guitar hero and powerful live performer, while releasing a series of acclaimed albums that have shown her restless creative spirit consistently taking her in new and exciting musical directions.

The New York Times called Fish “an impressive blues guitarist who sings with sweet power” and “one of the genre’s most promising young talents.” Her hometown paper The Kansas City Star noted, “Samantha Fish has kicked down the door of the patriarchal blues club” and observed that the young artist “displays more imagination and creativity than some blues veterans exhibit over the course of their careers.”

Having already made it clear that she’s more interested in following her heart than she is in repeating past triumphs, Samantha Fish delivers some of her most compelling music to date with Belle of the West, her fifth studio album. The deeply soulful, personally charged 11-song set showcases Fish’s sublime acoustic guitar skills as well as her roots, emotionally resonant songwriting

Fish recorded Belle of the West in the relaxed, rural creative atmosphere of the legendary Zebra Ranch Studios in the North Hills of Mississippi with producer Luther Dickinson (of North Mississippi All-stars fame), with whom she worked previously on her 2015 album Wild Heart.

The studio team included some of the region’s most iconoclastic musicians, including Dickinson, solo artist and Jack White associate Lillie Mae (whose distinctive vocals are featured on Nearing Home), much-travelled juke-joint blues artist Lightnin‘ Malcolm (whose featured on Poor Black Mattie), Squirrel Nut Zippers founder Jumbo Mathus, upright bassist and beloved solo artist Amy LaVereTikyra JacksonTrina Raimey and ShardéThomas, granddaughter of the legendary Southern bluesman Otha Turner.

“I wanted to do this acoustic-electric record, and tap into the style and swagger of Mississippi,” Fish states, adding, “Any time you dive into another place, another vibe and a new group of people, you’re challenging yourself to grow musically. I felt very at home a Zebra Ranch, and I’ve known Luther and Malcolm for years, so it was a very comfortable situation. When you’re making a record like this, it has to feel natural if you want people to respond to it”.

Popa Chubby Announces New Album Two Dogs

Popa Chubby drops a big, bad, sonic bomb with his excellent and timely new album, “Two Dogs.” On it, Popa explores myriad musical styles and genres while keeping it close to his rock and soul core. You’ll hear the Popa you know and love and things you haven’t heard before.

Popa started work on “Two Dogs” with a lot of amazing sounds in his head and powerful feelings in his heart. Recorded at his home studio in New York’s Hudson Valley, Popa engineered and produced the record. He also plays drums, bass and percussion on some tracks. Renowned keyboard player and Popa’s long-time collaborator, Dave Keyes, appears throughout the album. Popa’s daughter, Tipitina Horowitz, plays the trumpet and contributes horn compositions. And ace drummer, Sam “Freightrain” Bryant keeps the beat real and rocking.

In the album’s liner notes, Popa expresses how he feels about the times we live in and expands on the inspiration behind the title song: “We have become polarized as a race. There is a battle inside each of us. Each day we rise and must choose our path calling upon each other and our own spirits for strength and courage. The dog we feed is the one that rules, the dog we starve dies of neglect. It is up to each of us to use our spirit to feed the dog that will enable all of us to thrive.”

This quote from a review of “Two Dogs” published in Blues Magazine does a good job of summing up the man and his music: “To call him a blues artist is to belittle who he is and what he stands for. Horowitz is so much more than that: Singer, songwriter, guitar stylist, his passions run deep and shine bright. With a performance style he describes as “the Stooges meets Buddy Guy, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson,” Popa Chubby is an endearing character who is one of the genre’s most popular and innovative figures.”

G3 U.S. TOUR SET TO LAUNCH ON JANUARY 11TH

Tour features Satriani, John Petrucci (Dream Theater) & Phil Collen (Def Leppard)

“Beyond the Supernova” Documentary by ZZ Satriani to Premiere at Mill Valley Film Festival – October 14th

Joe Satriani Announcing New album For January 2018 What Happens Next. World-renowned guitar virtuoso, JOE SATRIANI, announces the release of his 16th solo album, What Happens Next, set for release, January 12, 2018 on Sony/Legacy Recordings. Just a day prior to the album release, SATRIANI revives his G3 tour entity, inviting Dream Theater’s John Petrucci and Def Leppard lead guitarist, Phil Collen to join him. The G3 tour launches on January 11 in Seattle, WA and continues across the U.S. before winding up on February 25 in Milwaukee, WI. There is a special tour pre-sale promotion giving fans the opportunity to buy concert tickets with the new album as well as VIP packages.

The new, instrumentally electrifying album features a power trio of legendary status; SATRIANI on guitar and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple/Black Country Communion) and drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), the latter reuniting with SATRIANI for the first time since their work in the supergroup Chickenfoot. SATRIANI is once again joined by producer/engineer/mixer Mike Fraser, his frequent collaborator over the last 20 years, on What Happens Next. Fraser is well-known for recording/mixing every AC/DC album since 1990’s The Razors Edge along with his classic works with SATRIANI going back to the release of Crystal Planet in 1998.

These new tracks literally vibrate the soul with an energy rarely found these days. From the dynamic opening track, “Energy”, to the majestic crunch of “Thunder High On The Mountain”, and the easy, sensual cords of “Smooth Soul”. This unparalleled rock-rhythm section gives What Happens Next a depth of groove that sets it apart from SATRIANI’s other work.

Since its debut in 1996, SATRIANI’s G3 tour has featured the world’s greatest guitarists (everyone from Steve Vai and Eric Johnson to Steve Lukather and Robert Fripp) and has become a consistent concert hall sell-out attraction in the U.S., South America, Europe, Australia, and Japan. “I could say that I’m surprised at the durability of G3 and how much it’s grown, but in a way I’m not,” SATRIANI says with a laugh, “I think part of its charm and its mojo is in the chemistry of having three top guitarists share what they do on stage. It’s fun, it’s unpredictable, it’s wild – it’s everything you could want in a show.”

In addition to this new album and exciting tour news, a new documentary “Beyond the Supernova” shot by SATRIANI’s filmmaker son, ZZ, makes its debut at the Mill Valley Film Festival this October. The tour documentary chronicles Joe, along with his band and crew, on their last “Shockwave Supernova” tour throughout Europe and Asia.

Satriani’s Strange Beautiful Music: A Musical Memoir first released in May 2014 will now be available in paperback. Pre-orders are available now with the official release on November 7, 2017. The paperback version includes a new chapter focusing on SATRIANI’s last album, Shockwave Supernova. Read an excerpt from the new chapter HERE.

For two decades, the guitar virtuoso has traveled the world, playing to sold-out crowds as both a headliner and as founder of the all-star “G3” guitar extravaganza. SATRIANI’s studio and live recordings have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide to date and of his many solo albums, two have gone platinum and four others went gold, with 15 Grammy nominations between them. His side project, Chickenfoot, featuring former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, former bassist Michael Anthony, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith saw their debut album certified gold and their second studio album debuted at #9.
