UKBlues Awards Events Master of Ceremony Announced

The team at UKBlues Federation who are running the inaugural UKBlues Awards 2018 alluded in last weeks announcement that there was exciting news to follow.  They are thrilled and very honoured to announce that Ian Siegal has agreed to take on the role of Master of Ceremonies at the event.  The UKBlues Awards presentation event taking place at Worthing Pier Southern Pavilion on Saturday 19th May 2018, tickets for which will be available from 1st January 2018.

UKBlues Awards Events Master of Ceremony AnnouncedIan is considered by many to be the most compelling British blues artiste since the great names of the sixties.

Classic Rock tags Siegal “a national treasure,” America’s blues bible says “vast talent” and MOJO magazine ranks him “the cleverest writer and most magnetic blues performer in the UK.” In a career that spans more than 25 years he has taken his music to 45 countries and presided over a trophy haul that includes 14 Awards in various categories and two Mojo Blues Albums of The Year not to mention three US Blues Music Awards nominations – an unprecedented nod for a non-American.

And yet, for all the dizzying achievements in the rear-view mirror, the most important part of any Siegal chronology is always the next show, the next song and the next great record.

Talking about his involvement with the event Ian said: “I’m delighted to be asked to help the UKBlues Federation present the first edition of the UK Blues Awards. This is an important step towards making the awards an internationally recognised standard of excellence. I will see you in Worthing in May to celebrate the UK’s diverse blues talents.”

We are very pleased that Ian has agreed to come on board and his involvement can only help to make this event all the more special and one not to miss.

Keeping you up-to-date about the awards.

The UKBlues Federation does not undertake to accept every application and their decision will be final and they will not disclose our reasons for accepting or not accepting applications. All applications will be treated as confidential and all members of the nomination panel are required to keep their involvement in the panel confidential.

VOTING PROCESS AUDIT

Finally, as you will see from the Eligibility criteria and Rules that have been drafted to apply to the UKBlues Awards – www.ukbluesawards.com/rules – the UKBlues Federation has gone to great lengths to make sure the voting process for the Awards is robust, open, secure and having integrity.

It has already been advised that the process will be overseen and audited by a completely independent external scrutineer and we are very pleased to announce that a partner in KPMG, a major international professional service company and one of the Big Four auditors, has agreed to take on this role.

The UKBlues Federation would like to thank the partner concerned, whose identity must, for obvious reasons, remain confidential, for agreeing to take on this role.

UKBlues Federation Involvement in IBC Youth Showcase Announced

IBC YOUTH SHOWCASE

The UKBlues Federation is excited to announce that, for the first time ever, the UK will have a representative taking part in the Youth Showcase at the 34th International Blues Challenge between 16th & 20th January 2018.

The Youth Showcase takes place on the afternoon of Friday 19th  January  2018 in the Beale Street entertainment district in Memphis, Tennessee and will see some of the finest in developing blues talent perform in a variety of clubs along the world-famous Beale Street. This is described by the organisers, the Blues Foundation, as a ‘chance to hear the next generation of great blues artists as they hone their talents in order to take the bigger world stage of the future’.

Participants are also involved in workshops, master classes and other events over the 5 day period of the IBC as well as having the opportunity to mix with musicians and others involved with the blues from around the world.

The Youth Showcase is not judged, however all competition rules, regulations and restrictions apply. A panel will offer comments and feedback on performances.

As the only UK Affiliate to the Blues Foundation, the UKBlues Federation is delighted to have been able to offer the opportunity of appearing at and participating in this event to 12 year old Toby Lee, a young man who has already built a huge worldwide following on social media as well as having played on stage with a number of great names including Ronnie Baker Brooks, John Nemeth and Walter Trout.

In October this year, Toby took the renowned Blues Heaven Festival in Denmark by storm drawing a glowing review from Elmore Magazine.

‘The phenomenon of this festival had to be the little 12-year-old guitar whirlwind, Toby Lee. Cute as a button, he dressed in Mick Jagger duds and held a solid body Gibson Firebird that was just about as big as he was. This little dude stood firm beside the big players in the festival like John Nemeth, Mike Ledbetter, Sugaray Rayford and Ronnie Baker Brooks and matched their riffs blow-for-blow, managed to be as cool as ice. Video taken of him and Ronnie Baker Brooks with duelling guitars have hit the 50-million view mark and has been shared more than 1.4 million times. Yes, that happened at Blues Heaven.’

Toby has been playing guitar since he was 6 and was dubbed a future superstar of the blues by Joe Bonamassa.  He is associated with Gibson Brands and Hamstead Soundworks amplification

He was cast as the original Zack Mooneyham in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical School of Rock in the West End, a part which he played for a year. With School of Rock he performed in Hyde Park and on shows including Comic Relief, Michael McIntyre and The X Factor. Earlier this year Toby won an Olivier Award along with the other band members of School of Rock for playing live at every show.

He released his first EP “Ten”, produced by Laurence Jones, another of Toby’s admirers when he was 10.

The UKBlues Federation is proud that, following on from the success of last year when the UK’s first ever IBC entrant, the Kaz Hawkins Band, progressed to the competition’s semi-finals. The UK will, this year not only be represented at the International Blues Challenge by LaVendore Rogue who won the 4th UKBlues Challenge but also in the Youth Showcase by one of the youngest artists to take part in this event.

Ashwyn Smyth, Chair of the UKBlues Federation commented: ‘We are both excited and very happy that we have been able to facilitate Toby’s participation at the INC Youth Showcase and see this as an important step in achieving one of our stated aims, supporting and promoting the next generation of blues players and bringing the blues to the younger generations. We wish Toby every success and are proud to have him flying the flag for blues in the UK & the UKBlues Federation.’

You can find out more about Toby at  www.facebook.com/tobyleeguitar where you can also see and hear Toby in action.

Day Of Music Celebrating Life Cancer On The Rocks

Day Of Music Celebrating Life Cancer On The Rocks

Day Of Music Celebrating Life Cancer On The Rocks

Rick Palin of Skyfire Interactive has announced today a new event Cancer On The Rocks. The acts are varied and are mostly rock and blues. The event is close to Rick’s heart. This event is fundraising for Macmillan with the goal on the day is to raise £10,000.00 for the charity.

Background to Day Of Music Celebrating Life Cancer On The Rocks

In August Rick’s Father died of cancer, his death hit him very hard, especially the feeling of feeling so completely powerless to help him. The one constant that got me through the desperate times was the help and support given by Macmillan. They were such a support to both me and my dad and I will never forget what they did for him and in fact still are doing to help me. Having seen so many people die from cancer this year, including close family and friends, Rick is sickened to the stomach the number of people this disease is killing. Rick, made a vow to do something to help Macmillan as I thought simply writing them a £500 cheque was insufficient and a mere drop in the ocean in this horrible war. The outcome The Cancer On The Rocks. Whereon one day an 11 band spectacular taking place in Nantwich, Cheshire in January 2018.

This day is not just about raising funds for Macmillan it is about something equally special, it is about celebrating life.

Day Of Music Celebrating Life Cancer On The Rocks – Tickets go on sale today HERE

Every penny raised will go to Macmillan, so come along, have a fantastic day with some amazing bands and know that you are doing something important to help save lives.

The Old Bush Blues Festival is a special weekend for many. Potentially being spoiled by the very few. The bureaucrats are turning the cogs, using their power make common sense be heard and acted upon. Make your voice heard by supporting Matt & Karen Williams.

I declare Bluesdoodles has a vested interest. Not money but the feeling of attending a festival that is about music and friendship. I love taking the photographs, laughing and hearing old favourites play and then new bands that add to the flavour of the weekend. Bluesdoodles has a vested interest in the love of live music, fun and friendship.

Background to Save Old Bush Blues Festival Sign the Petition Now!

In the case of Old Bush Blues Festival. Common-sense has gone out of the window and it is the views of the minority (just two people) who appear to be wielding the power in Callow End.  The majority have welcomed the re-opening of the pub as Matt Williams the previous Landlord twenty years ago returned to run the pub. The festival happens on one weekend during August, bringing visitors to the area, campers who spend money in the shop. The festival has a true community feel with fun at the heart of the weekend’s proceedings.

This year the third Old Bush Blues festival was held. What a success despite the worry that the objection by two neighbours regarding noise pollution caused. Matt a true professional dealt with the complaint putting in noise absorption and suppression, noise assessments and control, constant monitoring to the Malvern Hills District Council requirements and a dedicated telephone hot line for any complaints. Did the festival play on into the early hours – no, the music was finished by 11 pm. I know that if you walked up the lane to the main road running through the village the music was a faint background hum.

The two complainants live near the pub. Once again like so many music venues, people buy a place nearby and then complain about noise and inconvenience. If you want to be in a quiet area buying near a popular community Pub is not the best location for you.

Save Old Bush Blues Festival Sign the Petition Now! HERE

We want community pubs at the heart of villages. To make a business sustainable Pubs have to offer more than a dusty ale house with a decaying dart board in the darkest corner for entertainment. Old Bush Blues Festival one weekend a year is just such an enterprise that is making Old Bush Inn a popular place to visit.  To run the festival extra staff are employed, and Matt, has improved the pub inside and out making this an attractive Pub for Callow End to enjoy all year.

Live music has always been at the heart of village communities.  The garden in the pub is child-friendly, people can enjoy a drink and eat knowing the children are in a safe environment. Villages get a discounted ticket for the weekend. The festival brings a buzz to the village and in the past, many villagers loved the fact they could sit in their gardens and listen to the music. Not This year they complained. Two people are complaining ruining the fun and live music for the majority.

Stop the unfairness and support Matt & Karen Williams who want to run a successful business that includes a festival loved by the many.

Katie Bradley talking about C’est la vie and more

Katie Bradley talking about C’est la vie and more

BD: Afternoon Katie, great to catch up with you and have a chance to talk about the forthcoming album and projects you are keeping you busy.

KB: Having a good time, keeping busy with projects and tours that keep rolling in.  So lots of variation in my approach to the Blues. I have been involved with Matt Long recording new material and I have a single out with a dance/electronic duo Jettricks – it is available via i-tunes and limited edition vinyl via my website.

BD: Tell us about the crowdfunding project with Indiegogo for your new album C’est la vie and choosing Indiegogo.

KB: I have invested a lot of time and money getting my exciting new project to this stage. Now on post production stage, feel it is going well people are being very generous. Crowd funding nearly reached half way and with eighteen days to raise the rest. The great thing about Indiegogo is that after paying a fee even if the full amount is not achieved I do still receive the money that has been raised by the end of the fundraising period. A good way of investing in an artist and getting something tangible in return

This is what your money is going towards

What We Need & What You Get

I have already invested what I can to the album to this point, so now we need your additional help to complete the process ready for release. In effect you are receiving the album in advance as a pre-order, with great bonuses and unique gifts available to this campaign as ‘perks’. Thank you for contributing and contributing to this venture, making it happen for us – not mentioning ordering a great present or a gift for yourself!

We are aiming to raise £3000 to cover:

  • Final studio session with special guests
  • Mixing
  • Mastering
  • Artwork
  • CD production

Katie Bradley talking about C’est la vie and more

C’est La Vie Indiegogo Crowdfunding HERE

BD: So the album title is C’est la vie; has the blues got a French feel?

KB: No it hasn’t I just like the French take on life, very philosophical and I think that is true of the blues as well. Whatever hardships you come across you have to get on with it “such is life” so thought it was the perfect phrase. The title song has a line “C’est la vie comme ci comme ça that is the way we are baby”. Yes, to do with the philosophical edge of the French.

It has been exciting working on ‘C’est la vie’ with one of the UK’s most exciting and inventive guitarists, Chris Corcoran. Chris is an incredible artist who has been featured in Guitarist Magazine, and is internationally noted for his innovation and authenticity as a composer and musician. I have known Chris for over twenty years, only worked together closely for the last  three years playing on the London circuit, the live scene We have been talking about making an album over the three years but between us we have just been too busy. Chris has been playing over one-hundred & Eighty gigs a year. We didn’t want to do a covers album, didn’t see the point. So he came with some grooves with Jamie Lawrence on Bass and I wrote the words. Quite a few of the songs are quite personal feel that it is quite a magical feel on the album personally. On drums is Mike Thorne who has played with all sorts of people. They are all part of the London scene. There are really authentic Chicago 1950’s flavours but really inventive as well reflecting the diverse catalogue of the musicians creating a lovely mix. I had to get Paul Jobson involved on keys, Fender Rhodes, Hammond Organs and Grand Piano, he just sat there and played it plus he is doing some backing vocals with me a continuity from my first album She’s Ready.  Also joining us is percussionist Paul Elliott who is in a duo with Jamie called Jettricks which is really cool and funky.

BD: With that mix is there a funky groove going on as well?

Yes there is, we have variety across the tracks with a gospel number which is heartfelt with a Staples Singers  influence, then there is Southern  Soul,  New Orleans, Memphis, Sun Studios influences and one of them is definite funky, 1970’s diva style. There is a whole mix of influences and everyone has added there take on them even a jazzy one song about having a muse. Chris Corcoran playing stands out it is just lovely, very melodic. The whole album draws on all of our passions for traditional Blues and Roots whilst continuing the traditions through experiences and bringing them to you bound by infectious grooves and melodies

BD: Where was the album recorded?

KB: The album is being recorded at the brilliant Rimshot Studios in Kent, renowned for award winning records and recording artist’s and so we are in the best possible hands with Mike Thorne behind the desk as well as on the drums. The studio is perfection as it offers authentic microphones and expertly sourced recording equipment, ensuring techniques that are reminiscent of the old recording companies such as Stax and Chess.

BD: Is the album self-released?

KB: Yes it is. The plan is to move it forward with an international release on a record label. The idea is to use the crowdfunding to have all the promotional material of a quality to get the album noticed and out there.

It is going to be released on CD, Had lots enquiries regarding vinyl so may bring out a single on vinyl. Vinyl is attracting young people. Whole new generation who are finding the blues through dance like a flash mob almost? as after a lesson in  Brixton & Islington  they dance to live music Would love to integrate this into festivals.

BD: Is there a release Date?

KB: End of January with a launch night in February. Check out the crowdfunding as one of the rewards is tickets for this event and you can be there at the launch of C’est la vie.

BD: With the album out early 2017 what other plans in the pipeline?

KB: Other things happening new website with shop. Some rather nice gigs including support to Popa Chubby at 100 Club in January and tour and festivals planned over Europe and the U.K. Keep in touch with Katie over at her Website HERE.
