Gun Unveils Favourite Pleasures New Album That Rocks

Gun Unveils Favourite Pleasures New Album That Rocks

GUN Unveils Favourite Pleasures New Album That Rocks. Is this the lucky seventh album as Gun shoots away the curveballs of life that have been thrown at them over the years? The line-up has changed, there has been hurtful breakups and the highs of hit albums and singles for the Glasgow based rockers

As you read the background to the album and the lyrics of the ten tracks unfold the album title Favourite Pleasures revealing a secret of a friend of the band the thrill of S&M.  Dante shares his favourite pleasures “mine are a lot different from that…..“Good food and watching Celtic will do me fine!”

The album cover cleverly pulls this together with a pop art depiction of the temptation of Eve and a juicy apple ripped apart by a metallic zip revealing torn stockings of broken relationships, hurt and attraction. This is an album cover that really does depict the rock with attitude and hidden twirls of delight that awaits the listener once the GUN fuel rock streams from the speakers.

The album rocks through deep melodic orchards that bare the fruit of ten delicious juicy songs that whets the appetite for Scottish Rock and leaves you wanting more. The melodies have a sharp edge crisp with a tougher approach reflecting the tone and guitar playing of new guitarist Tommy Gentry. He has added a new perspective to the band as he completes the quintet. Dante Gizzi on vocals at times spits out the lyrics of songs that are destined to be the crowd pleasers of future live gigs.

The opening number She Knows, sets the tempo, tone and taste of the album full of rocking riffs and neat hooks for the lyrics.  The rhythm is intense as Andy Carr’s bass line pulls in the beat of the drums of Paul McManus.   Dante admits “I found the lyric writing process tougher this time because I was going through a breakup with my partner.”  Reflecting the anger and heartache but never pity that the tougher rockier GUN has delivered.

The tracks that stand out, a difficult choice as the album has no fillers; on every listen depending on my mood a different song popped out as the one. Consistently though the title track, Black Heart, Here’s Where I Am, Take Me Down and closing track Boy Who Fooled the World.  These are tracks that capture the difference between the tracks, demonstrating the GUN never settle in the same groove they mix the rock up weaving influences gently in picking them up but always it is the powerful shot of GUN in your ears that leaves the lasting impression.

The opening of the title track is full of tempting sounds reflecting guilt and at the same time your favourite pleasures. The hint of mischievous naughtiness captured in a stonking melody that captures the imagination and will delight the crowds at any venue.  Black Heart opens with a crash of cymbals, sizzling guitar and Dante asks ‘what have I got to lose’. The song reflects the place where Dante is full of the hate and heart as he snarls through the lyrics of Take Me Down.  As so often on the album the vocals are reflected back on bass lines from Andy that have a growling ferocity of intent to deliver rock n’ roll that captivates the listener.

The second track in and the last could not be more different. Here’s Where I Am is a stop in your listening track moment, you just have to turn up the volume stop what you are doing and revel in the power of GUN’s favourite pleasure rock that delights. The track has a vitality a band that is pulling in the same direction as they play in the studio for sheer pleasure, forgetting the recording equipment, lost in the moment of high-octane pleasurable rock n’ roll Scottish style. GUN’s Favourite Pleasure is a rollercoaster of thrills of rock how to close the album and make a lasting impression? Go Faster? Play louder? No, let’s take the pace down – strip back the glitz and reveal the heart of GUN’s sound Dante’s vocals and a piano as we explore the Boy Who Fooled The World.  Autobiographic feel to the lyric and fills the room with an authentic honesty and an innocence rarely found on a Rock album.

The answer to the question Is this the lucky seventh album as Gun shoots away the curveballs of life that have been thrown at them over the years? Yes this is a superb album nothing to do with luck it is down to quality musicianship and production.
