Besides his solo projects, studio and TV work, and teaching,  Stanton Moore  the drummer of Galactic, the funky New Orleans conglomeration now in its third decade of touring, and he still finds time to record and travel as a trio with David “Tork” Torkanowsky (keys) and James Singleton (bass).Besides his solo projects, studio and TV work, and teaching, he’s    Like Moore, Tork and Singleton are in high demand, so it takes some lead time to clear everybody’s schedule. The trio had a new record ready, they thought. But then, “a couple of days before we were supposed to start recording,” says Moore, Allen Toussaint passed.”

Toussaint’s sudden death on November 10, 2015 (in Madrid, far from home, of a heart attack, after playing a concert) shocked the city. The polymath New Orleans producer, songwriter, arranger, bandleader, pianist, singer, and all-around figure of elegance had been a vital, active presence in New Orleans since the 1950s.

The three musicians immediately shelved their planned album and went into creative hyperdrive. “We already had studio time booked, we couldn’t wait,” Moore recalls. “It’s not like we wrote out all these arrangements ahead of time. We were flying by the seat of our pants.”

As they began working up pieces of Toussaint’s vast repertoire, it quickly became a vocal album with guest singers. “As Tork likes to say,” Moore comments, “being a musician in New Orleans is like having the greatest musical toolbox at your disposal.” Supplementing their trio with some of New Orleans’s living legends – their friends — they re-imagined Toussaint’s songs, conceptualizing and building out an album on the fly.

The idea of guest on particular tracks was the obvious musical path to travel after Torkanowsky invited the first guest vocalist, Jolynda Kiki Chapman, best known in New Orleans for singing with her mother, Topsy Chapman.  The collaboration with a variety of artists created an album that captures teh spirit of New Orleans and the magic of Toussaint’s work.

With You in Mind: The Songs of Allen Toussaint is built on the livest grooves the trio could deliver. It was a bittersweet project for all concerned, celebrating the memory of someone whose living presence was so important. “I didn’t get to work with Allen as often as I’d have liked to,” Moore says, “but I did get to.” Their friendship went back twenty years. “Through the years we crossed paths a few times. The first time he played with us was also the first time we played the Saenger Theater,” referring to the 2,600-seat New Orleans landmark.

“Allen Toussaint wrote the soundtrack to New Orleans,” says MooreHe came out of an environment that no longer exists.

The level of talent and ability and artistry that he embodied – we won’t see this again.”

Thomas Wynn and The Believers Album Wade Waist Deep

Thomas Wynn and The Believers Album Wade Waist Deep

Thomas Wynn and The Believers Album Wade Waist Deep

Thomas Wynn and The Believers album Wade Waist Deep their third album and should get the name known far and wide with this cross over album that is not a road trip but the weaving of the lexicon of American music from roots to rock.  Labelled a Rock album Wade Waist Deep is so much more  exploring how we can build an open better world, not through preaching but a common understanding of tolerance and love. Wade Waist Deep moves beyond the confessional songwriting as he sought relief from heartbreak and addiction on the previous album and look beyond self to a collective conscience. The music is mature, thoughtful with strong lyrics, powerful harmonies and ear catching melodic rhythms. For Thomas Wynn, life & music have changed since the birth of his son Abel a year ago; “It’s that yearning, that longing for the person that you want to be,” says Wynn.

Joining Thomas as The believers are his sister Olivia, her vocals have a searing purity shaping harmonies that sing with an ethereal energy. With vintage Hammond sound from Colin Daniel Fei and wail of  the blues harmonica from Chris ‘Bell’ Antemesaris. The rhythm and deep grooves are laid down by  David Wagner and Ryan Miranda; on bass & drums respectively.  Enough of the background what about the music? It is superb from the first note to the last, clarion clear, gentle and urgent full of light and dark phrasing from every member of Thomas Wynn and the Believers.

Opening with a harmony of voices Man Out Of Time lets us step onto the spiritual musical journey this album will take us on over the dozen tracks. This is primeval, raw and full of growing tension as the blues captured and shaped the sound is hypnotic as we learn about Man Out Of Time. The chorus is melodic vocal wail no words required as the emotion unfurl, calling us to explore the music and lyrics.  ‘In The darkness light was mine’ intones Olivia as the music builds around her this is raw power energy that rocks.  Following on is the title track, the drums are hypnotic the guitar wields the power of the six-strings as Thomas’ voice implores  as we go down to the water and we are Waist Deep in the water.  A title track soaked in emotion the guitar weeps and Thomas finds the tonal texture to ‘wash my feet wash my soul… and I will find my Peace’. This is rock that is full of nuances and is not about the volume but tcomposition of melody and lyrics taking us out of ourselves to be part of the story that Thomas Wynn and The Believers are sharing.

Heartbreak Alley, the angst is raw, the organ swelling with emotion the singing from Olivia soulful and powerful. The album now has three different sounds and they are held together by a narrative that flows and the linking back to the wealth of music that has shaped modern America. If you are exploring life then Death cannot be ignored and with the powerful rhythms from David & Ryan shaping the emotional outpouring from Thomas’s vocals and the cascading harmonies as Olivia joins him on My Eyes Won’t Be Open; with the Hammond adding tonal depth after the chorus this is a song that remains long after the last note is sung.

The guitar opening of I Don’t Regret is sweet, with acoustic feel and adds another element to the yearning in Thomas’ vocal, simple with an inherent beauty.  As the guitar volume increases the music opens up like sun coming out from behind a cloud the music fills the room.  Gospel meets Country Rock and we realise that regretting what has been done is pointless it is the future that can be changed.

The rock in the band falls out of the speaker with the penultimate number We Could All Die Screaming; volume and intensity are raised but the clarity is never lost. This is Thomas with a determination in the delivery of the vocals, a tinge of anger and it builds throughout the four minutes. Closing with Turn It To Gold, the intensity is captured as the musicians bring an album to a climax.  The bass deep and with a drone like quality catches the ear with wonder a rock anthem that is so much more.

Wade Waist Deep has layers of complexity, thought-provoking vocals and a message never preaching it is about Country Rock from a band that has something to say connecting us all back to Orlando, Florida where they live. Through a to Sputnik Sound studio in Nashville, where the band recorded Wade Waist Deep with four-time Grammy award-winning producer, Vance Powell (The White Stripes, Jack White, Chris Stapleton). “I really wanted to do it outside of our hometown,” said Wynn. For the month of August 2016, Wynn and The Believers went on a journey to a sonic place that’s big, bright, and visionary.

If I had to describe the album full of complexity in a simple sentence.  Spiritual, Country Rock that has gathered into the music blues, soul; with the awakening hope brings when combined with the power of love. This is Life in Music, things can be different, it can be better.  I thoroughly recommend you immerse yourself and Wade Waist Deep in to the musical waters that are Thomas Wynn and The Believers.

Dave Hunt Travelling Blues With New Album 100 Horses

Dave Hunt Travelling Blues With New Album 100 Horses

Following on from his second album Whiskey & Demons we are leaving the bar and stepping into the horse powered motor car and heading across the musical landscape. Dave on 100 Horses has mixed it up with the Delta and flows into Southern Rock as the harmonica pulls it together with a healthy helping of British Rn’B. As you would expect from Harmonica Dave the core of the album is the harmonica whose licks punctuate the lyrics adding an emotional refrain. The veritable one-man Band that is Mr Hunt, as he plays Drums, Bass and Guitar in addition to Harmonica and vocals.  Joining Dave on the 100 Horses journey is Andy Littlewood’s keys, guitar and backing vocals, The MEP Collective adding the horns with guest drummer Pete Nelson and vocalist Darren Yates.

The dozen tracks joining us on the road trip are all originals with plenty of zip and style the harmonica, guitar and vocals creating the contours, the light and shade of changing landscapes as you ride across the USA.  The driving power of escape and the horsepower under the bonnet fuels the blues with an energy that flows across the album. As we hit the Blues Highway, the tempo slows and the number reflects politician’s promises that set you on a path of playing music. The harp is sharp and full of poignant bends that are the hooks for the lyrics of the story exploring Grandpa times of 1922 but sadly, still relevant today.

As we take arrest from the road trip love the mainstay of many a tune explored throughout Love’s Just A Killer, the guitar is dark and raw as we join in with the Rock n Roll tempo.  Back with the car a potent mix of Moonshine Chevrolet, this is foot-stomping hill country blues with its compelling mix of simplicity and danger.  As you expect Dave’s harmonica steals the show with a punctuation that adds so much more than notes to the musical landscape.

As we step into Deadman’s Shoes the questions asked in Tell Me and a visit to Rehab; life explored to the cascading backdrop of blues that with a purity of shape and form that makes this album a fantastic listen. The power of the music grows the blues is developed in its many hues, as we hit the jaunty number I’m On Fire; a love song full of raw melodic power.  With Darren Yates joining Dave in a vocal duet on I Told You we have another twist in the Road we are travelling with 100 Horses leaving the finale. Completing the dozen tracks that all have blues of various tones and shades we are Shot Down. Opening with Harp, percussion and then the guitar the intro is sweet and mournful, and then a world-weary vocal of a man who has traveled far and has many tales to tell. Not a happy story shooting, jail and remorse. Does this leave you feeling down, why no this is an album full of life and vitality, every tale, life, love, betrayal and moonshine. Blues is about feel, story and a melodic beat this album has it all from the first to the last note. It is alive with the blues we want to hear.

Liquor And Iron Fuels Russ Payne and The Unison Bends

Liquor And Iron Fuels Russ Payne and The Unison Bends

Liquor And Iron Fuels Russ Payne and The Unison Bends

Russ Payne And The Unison Bends hits the Blues trail with eleven original tracks full of Liquor And Iron combined with melodic determination.   The guitar has grit as they introduce their sound with the opening track This Life (Gonna Be The Death Of Me). For many the opening chords and vocals will be the listener’s first introduction to a band who are bending the music they love into a harmonious contemporary rock n roll sound with a deep funky rhythmic undertow.  The trio is now a powerhouse on this carefully considered album with Russ Payne on vocals and guitar filling out the sound with depths of tone. His voice is gruff and at times more talking than singing which suits the song and has the feel of Iron will drench in fiery Liquor from the still down a back road.  Joining Russ is a powerhouse of a rhythm section Bill Keller on Bass and Nigel Summerley on drums.  It Could Have Been Me, includes keys from Saal Seniveratne adding passion and angst as the tempo and tension builds. The Guitar is full of burning blues textures and acts as a foil to the vocals.

As for ballads, harder rock chords and licks are fused to the blues it is the deep grooves from the bass laid down by Bill that shapes Sometimes, with the driven depth from a bass that hums with a desire to be funky.  We all need some Good Luck along the road and this is a catchy, sunny number that gets the feet tapping as Russ is joined by Jake Rousham on backing Vocals. This s a number that curls and forms a feel-good feel. Holding out East, with its narrative has Nigel playing harp that shines out across the mournful rhythm as a journey begins and peace to be made with a six-string friend as we travel east.

Across the eleven tracks the blues definitely rocks, not with aggression of volume but with considered purpose and R n’ B collides with Rock N Roll. Closing out with the title track the tempo is taken down with a country fused acoustically soaked number. This is definitely after a long train ride over the Iron tracks and life has been experienced and viewed through an empty bottle of Liquor.  Once again Saal’s keyboard adds a melodic vibe contrasting with the vocal harmonies between Russ and Alex Patterson.

Liquor and Iron, is not a traditional blues-rock album, this is a contemporary British sound drawing on the heritage of the past and weaving into the sonic narrative the flow of soulfulness. This freshness that is plain good music that makes Iron & Liquor an album full of interest as love, life, and alcohol are explored. Liquor And Iron Fuels Russ Payne and The Unison Bends in an interesting direction.

Sonny Landreth Announces First Live Album In 12 Years‘Recorded Live In Lafayette’ contains two incredible live performances from the Slide Guitar virtuoso.

Out June 30th via Provogue/Mascot Label Group.

The King of Slydeco, Sonny Landreth returns with 2 unique live sets, one acoustic and one electric. ‘Recorded Live In Lafayette’ is Sonny Landreth’s first live album in twelve years.

After a dozen acclaimed albums, virtuoso slide guitarist and bandleader Sonny Landreth found himself at an artistic crossroads. He finally wanted to create the full-length acoustic collection his fans had long requested, but he was also itching to capture the sound of his stalwart electric trio augmented by a couple of his favorite collaborators. And the time was certainly right for an elastic, career-spanning double-live album.

So Landreth and his longtime friends decided to do it all. ‘Recorded Live in Lafayette’ is a 16-song opus that covers more musical ground than any single album ever could, as the singer and songwriter’s work stretches and twists across 93 minutes of full-band acoustic and electric bottleneck lightning.

The double CD and vinyl release on Provogue, which includes the most extensive acoustic set ever recorded by Landreth, opens with acoustic arrangements of the artist’s tunes dating back to the 1981 title cut of his debut album, ‘Blues Attack.’ “It gives you a chance to explore those songs in a different way,” Landreth says, describing the textures created by the intersection of Dave Ranson’s ukulele bass, Brian Brignac’s cajón, Steve Conn’s accordion and Sam Broussard’s acoustic guitar. “The familiarity is there,” he adds, “but I also wanted to turn those guys loose as much as possible.”

The Cajun pull of the accordion combined with the added depth of Bass Ukulele and second acoustic guitar. melodic acoustic layers are pulled together by the percussive beat of brush on an amp with drummer astride and cymbal. Bad Touch Supporting The Kentucky Headhunters

Bad Touch Supporting The Kentucky HeadhuntersBad Touch Supporting The Kentucky Headhunters Bad Touch Supporting The Kentucky Headhunterson their October  UK Tour

Following their recent UK tour supporting King King, and their Planet Rock Roadstars UK tour with Broken Witt Rebels, Bad Touch are pleased to announce they will support the Kentucky Headhunters on their October 2017 On Safari UK Tour.

This marks the second time that Bad Touch will tour the UK supporting The Kentucky Headhunters (they first toured with them in the UK in July 2016). Both bands got on so well last time, they decided to do it again.

Says Richard Young, the guitarist and vocalist for the Kentucky Headhunters – “We first met Bad Touch when they were chosen as our support act after my son John Fred’s young band, Black Stone Cherry, convinced us to do our first-ever UK tour in 2016. In a mere week of touring, the Headhunter’s and Bad Touch became like a band of brothers. There is a certain charm and charisma between the two bands that transcends to the fans of both bands, on stage and off. We’re proud to announce their return for this year’s October UK dates. Simply put, it wouldn’t be the same without them.”

Truth Be Told: Bluesdoodles said – The trio of tracks are triumphant but the question can they maintain the momentum interest and rawness that is chiseled and shaped into a rock classic Truth Be Told.  I will let you into the secret Yes, they can and definitely do on the bands sophomore album. Every one of the dozen tracks on the album brings its own link in the musical ride around a fairground of musical pleasures to explore. Read the rest of the review HERE

Grammy award-winners, the Kentucky Headhunters, according to the RIAA, have sold over 11 million albums worldwide, will perform tracks from their latest album On Safari. Rich in southern rock, the Headhunters’ new album tips the hat to family and the southern way of life in the USA.

The Kentucky Headhunters Invite The U.K. On Safari, with Bad Touch in October.

Bluesdoodles loved the album “On Safari, is a jukebox of sounds that never crash and burn, they all fit into the album” Why the Album title On Safari? The music is taken from the inspiration gained on their first time trip overseas. Pushed out of their comfort zone by Richard’s son John Fred Young they traveled to Europe. The result is music that sparkles with the excitement of traveling and being On Safari. Band members/brothers Richard and Fred Young poignantly lost their father just three days before heading into the studio to record the album, which they have dedicated in his memory.  Read what else we said HERE

Bad Touch’s album Truth Be Told, recorded at Mwnci Studios in Wales, features the single 99%, remixed for radio by the legendary Rolling Stones engineer and co-producer, Chris Kimsey.

Colossus Huge Album Release from Triggerfinger

Colossus Huge Album Release from Triggerfinger

Colossus Huge Album Release from Triggerfinger

Colossus Huge Album Release from TriggerfingerAntwerp’s Triggerfinger will be releasing the strutting and swaggering new album ‘Colossus’ on 25th August via their new home Mascot Records.

The Belgian based trio (Ruben Block, vocals & guitar; Paul Van Bruystegem, bass; Mario Goossens, drums) have been exploding across Europe and have played an intensive 200 shows in the last 20 months, which also saw them support Muse on their sold out 50,000 capacity Stadium show in Aix-les-Bains, France and Park Live Festival in Russia.

Insatiable for the live stage they have opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Rolling Stones (twice), Thin Lizzy, Clutch, Big Sugar and Therapy? They were asked to step in at Pinkpop to replace the mighty Foo Fighters who pulled out with Dave Grohl injured and they’ve sold out the 8000 capacity Vorst in Brussels, the Paradiso in Amsterdam an impressive 10 times as well as the 6000 capacity Heinkenen Music Hall. They also performed in the boxing ring during the Heavyweight title fight between Wladimir Klitschko (UKR) and Tony Thompson (USA) at Stade de Suisse in Bern, Switzerland which was broadcast across the world, including screens on Broadway – check out the performance here.

COLOSSUS, Triggerfinger’s fifth album and debut on Mascot Records sees the Belgian band adding new flavours to the mix.

“We wanted to get out of the rat race for a while”, Ruben Block admits. “The first step was doing a few collaborations with other musicians that would kick us out of our comfort zone. It made us look at our songs in a different way. The second step was building our own little studio where we could work and wail 24/7. All amps on 10 at two in the morning? No problem! But there was more to it than sheer volume. The previous albums were all built on roaring energy and the live interaction between the three of us. That was not our main concern anymore. This time the song would be king. ‘Anything goes’, that was our motto. Acoustic instruments, samples, keyboards, percussion, two bass guitars: as long as they served the song, we were happy.”

By now the question was, who could mold all this material into a new Triggerfinger album? Ever since the early nineties two names had popped up regularly on some of their favorite records. Produced by Mitchell Froom and engineered by Tchad Blake as a team and separately they’ve worked with variety of bands and artist from  Los Labos to Elvis Costello,  from  Bonnie Raitt to Pearl Jam.

After meeting with Mitchell Froom in June of 2016 the band set up camp in Froom’s home studio in Santa Monica for six weeks, and they hit it off instantly. The subdued producer quickly became a fourth band member, adding eerie sounds coaxed from his collection of vintage keyboards. Los Lobos’ saxophone giant Steve Berlin added his mojo on three tracks.

Colossus was the first song where the band worked with two basses. Block: “Ditching the guitar really opened up the groove, and the combination of two bass guitars was very intriguing, sonically. It was heavy, but fresh at the same time. Images and pieces of conversations flashed through my mind, like a collage, and over this monumental groove I began to chant: ‘Colossus! Colossus!’ It stuck.

This must be the boldest thing we’ve ever done”, Ruben Block says. “We’ve been fans of Mitchell Froom’s work for a long time, but working with your heroes can be a dangerous thing. Mitchell proved to be comforting and challenging at the same time. He opened so many doors for us, and with COLOSSUS he put us on track for the next few years.

Until the release date on 25th August 2017 you can watch the brand new video for Flesh Tight here:

Bluesdoodles has listen – very impressive huge driving riffs – definitely a  teaser that leads you intrigued as to what the rest of the forthcoming album will deliver. Flesh Tight definitely unveils a hint of the power of Colossus from Triggerfinger.  The video has a strutting audacity that the rhythm picks up as the music struts its stuff out of the speaker.

Mustangs Exploring Love & Life on Just Passing Through

Mustangs Exploring Love & Life on Just Passing Through

Mustangs Exploring Love & Life on Just Passing Through

Expect the unexpected with the eighth offering from The Mustangs. The blues-rock energy reformed and shaped into an album that explores the two key elements that are at the heart of the blues Love & Life. This is a blues concept album replete with gentle melodies, thought-provoking lyrics as we are Just Passing Through love & life with The Mustangs. Every album is a journey, this is full of exploration and blues that is contemporary and emotionally mature providing a new direction that works.
The album comprises thirteen tracks, divided into virtual two sides – Side One LOVE and Side Two LIFE. With its mix of Americana infused with blues riffs and sharp blues harp; the original songs have us passing through a myriad of emotions, summation of Love & Life. Just Passing Through is a train journey that has blues on the tracks and pulled by the allure of Americana.

The Mustangs meld with a touch of joy, a twizzle of sorrowful strong melodies, crisp storytelling lyrics and the searing harmonica from Dave Kingaby. Adam Norsworthy’s distinctive vocals shape the song and build on the hooks from his guitar and keyboard playing. The rhythms are tight adding tonal colour and depth to the numbers as Ben McKeown is joined by Jon Bartley.

Opening with rich acoustic guitar One Way Ticket looks at lover’s journey as we pass through this gentle, melodic country acoustic number a soft and gentle intro to and album that is a journey at a gentler pace, a slow burn rather than one that hurls through on the electric high-speed train to nowhere. Not an opening track that starts of in a rush, but thought-provoking and takes on a new musical journey from The Mustangs. The beat picks up as Hiding From The Rain pulls together the powerful marriage of slide guitar and blues harp. Fingerprints with a harder edge and the harp punctuates the beating drum as we become acquainted to sorrow. Why, the fingerprints give it all away … all over the broken heart. The guitar is a sharp anguished lick that pulls you into the despair of love shattered. The melodic beauty of Beautiful Sleeper has a haunting tone as it drifts and a surprise as the mood changes. How? The beat darkens with a fearful urgency and Just The Way It Is goes back to the delta with Just The Way It Is. Closing side one with Cry No More, a short number and sweeter and poignant for it’s brevity as the chain gang gospel inspired blues fades and the story of Life is the new concept.

As we step into Life courtesy of The Mustangs we are enjoying the up-tempo, smile inducing joyful Saturday Night. This is fun good time music. Will we be seeing a darker side of life or is this fun after the tears that love brings? The driving beat has your feet tapping as we investigate What Lies Within, the harmonies between Adam and the rest of the band’s backing vocals once again are a delight reflecting back the country twang of the guitar. No this isn’t a walk through the happy life park, there is a fly in the ointment or rather Vinegar Fly that resets the tone of this part of the album. The bass is raw, the guitar chops through the drumming and Adam’s vocals and deeper darker and definitely angrier. Through this grungy blues the harp is a sharpening punctuation. The song is intriguing and you want to listen to every note and word as the beat compels you to explore the Vinegar Fly.

With the album title Just Passing Through, the graphics on the cover a train and travel trunks the sense of travel moving through life’s experiences is the chord that holds the numbers together. It is fitting that we are on the highway Route 66 as we travel Somewhere to Nowhere. Throughout the album the guitar from Adam is emotive shaping the mood of the lyrics building from the bass line and drummer’s beat. The Mustangs implore you not to make the same mistakes as they have. Closing out with How Short the Stay a brief finale closing with the tolling of the bell.

The album may not be what you expect from The Mustangs, as they explore the music and life’s emotional journeys. We have the melancholy and sunshine. The production is superb, keeping the tone and direction crisp, no track is a back water that would have been better left off. A new departure for The Mustangs we love this palette of blues and more adopted throughout Just Passing Through. Different is definitely good when you are Just Passing Through with The Mustangs. Mustangs Exploring Love & Life on Just Passing Through; is definitely stopping in my record collection.

Mustangs Exploring Love & Life on Just Passing Through

Borderline Beckons Mollie Marriott and Debut Album

Borderline Beckons Mollie Marriott and Debut Album

In Conversation as
Borderline Beckons Mollie Marriott and Debut Album

Mollie Marriott, daughter of former Small Faces and Humble Pie singer/guitarist Steve Marriott and step-daughter to singer Joe Brown took time out to chat with Bluesdoodles. With debut album Truth Is A Wolf due out later this year Mollie is performing an intimate concert at London Borderline on Thursday 1st June 2017. Mollie took time out of a busy schedule having recently toured with Wilko Johnson & Paul Weller.

BD: Mollie thank you for taking the time to chat to Bluesdoodles
MM: Thank you as well, always good to talk about music.

BD: You are the daughter of Steve Marriott; until now your music career as a backing singer for many musicians including your step-father Joe Brown. What was the motivation to step out front taking centre stage?
MM: Stepping out on centre stage, felt right now was the right time. I was not bothered before I loved being a backing vocalist. I could turn up sing and go; not get involved with all the other stuff. I had seen the scary stuff connected with the industry. I had watched what it can do to people, it put me off. I wanted to write my own stuff, I knew that I had to live life first. I am influenced by Stevie Nicks  &  Alanis Morissette; raw and dark honest that is who I wanted to write. I now have the head space; with a few breakdowns to write about. In the family the last is called Crash 2012. Hitting Rock bottom is good as the only way is up to rebuild your life as you want it. Now I am in a good place since I hit 30; being in your thirties is great. I was a young mum at 23; when your twenties are about having fun with people in your life because they are around. Thirty, you become your own person now where you want to go and who you are so all is good.

BD: With a Debut Album Truth is A Wolf announced. How did you decide upon releasing as the first single the number Control?
MM: Previously I had a testing tie with record label; basically had no control It was a case of Beautiful women using their beauty to control and trample you. A Mother figure who then betrayed and let you down, as line in my songs says “You saved me to break me”. Taking back control of my music was important so this was the right single to start again with my career, I am in the driver’s seat going where I want to go. I co-wrote this number with Sam Tanner, lead vocalist with Brother Strut. We wrote the song together, we knew right from the beginning Control was the perfect song to release as the first single off the album Truth Is A Wolf.

BD: Tell our readers about the forthcoming album, how did you decide on the title the type of music that best describes your debut?
MM:  I went to Nashville to start writing the album. The title track Truth  Is A Wolf written by Gary Nicholson, he was going to give it to Bonnie Raitt or Susan Tedeschi who are lots of my influences. I heard the demo just wurli and vocals and thought that sums up my album it was the perfect tile song. With tracks that reflect my life Broken, ending of a relationship and the effect that had on me and my daughter. The song Truth Is A Wolf, tied it all in a bow.  So many types of music can be used in the description. It is a Rock Album. Yes, many people I have asked as I really do not know have said it is bluesy-rock. Within the Backing vocals there are elements of gospel and country. It is a Rock mix definitely NOT pop laughing. Also, grungy elements. I am a grunge girl love Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam, Jagged Little Pill a favourite album sounds a bit like that as well.

BD:  Mollie you are definitely making a statement with your next Gig coming up on the 1st June at The Borderline with guests?
MM: Yes, so exciting, this is my first proper headline gig. With support from Anna Kratz, a special friend. We met in Nashville I went to one of her shows as she sung I was completely broken, sobbing she was singing y life, Anna is a wonderful songwriter writing with Ed Sheeran and many more. Pocket dragon are a cool band, with a female lead. It is so important to me that the night is Woman led. I want people to o listen to me as Mollie, Mollie Marriott; NOT “Mollie Marriott daughter of Steve Marriott” – that was not the name on my Birth Certificate. People have said well why not Mollie Brown? Joe Brown my step-dad then there is all that baggage as well. So sticking to the name I was given at birth Mollie Marriott.

BD: With a London Gig under your belt. Are you taking Mollie and her band to be heard outside of London?
MM: Yes, definitely tour outside of London. I love getting outside of London to venues in towns and cities. Played The Tramshed in Cardiff when opening for Wilko Johnson BD: Had to miss that show to my disappointment as away in Sheffield.
MM: What a great venue loved playing Cardiff, Nottingham was fun as was Apex in Bury St Edmunds. Playing Liverpool with Paul Weller was mad, even a little bit scary a room full of mods. My show will be exciting to watch, all my band is very visual to watch we move about.

BD: If you were putting together the perfect band with members from across the years (dead or alive) who would you have playing?
MM: Oh My God that is such a difficult question, will change the moment I put down the ‘phone Mollie laughs and says:-

Bass: Has to be Flea visually rocks.
Drummer: Richie Hayward – he has to have been the best drummer ever!
Guitar:  This is so difficult going to upset so many people has to be Stevie Marriott (such an under-rated guitarist)
Guitar: Joe Bonamassa
Vocals: Chris Cornell (he has such an amazing voice)

BD: Thank you for your time, looking forward to hearing the whole album and seeing your show when you take it on the road.
